Are there any in dash DVDs that will play with the vehicle moving? I know its illegal and all but just curious.

My Kenwood DDX8017 does. You just have to ground the emergency brake wire and it works perfectly. The other DDX models do the same, I believe.

I can watch dvds or tv when driving. :-)

Any forward progress with this?

I looked up the pioneer headunit and was very impressed.

I would love to put this thing in my rig.

But I've found quite a few negative issues about the unit on this site (www.avic411.com)

Wondering how your experience is going, and if/how and with what repercussions you may have shorted the Drive/Park safety feature.

Yup my DDX7015 that ive had for a few years now can play DVDs while driving. Mainly though i like being able to fiddle with navi while rolling. I want to upgrade to the DDX8017 tho.

I had the camera mounted on the left side of the licence plate exactly the same distance as the key hole. I didnt want to loose the keyhole as i sometimes use it so i can be stealth. I need to get the bluetooth and Ipod setups now too.

So far so good on the AVIC-Z1. Wifey loves it. Still ripping CDs into it.

The iPod function has been verified. The Nav features are dead-on accurate now. I've found a couple of mismapped Points of Interest in its database, but I expect they will clear those up in subsequent updates. Example: Shows McDonald's is one block farther away on the map than in reality.

The gyro functions are pretty cool too. Not that anybody cares about skid pad performance here on Mud.

Reverse Camera arrived while I was away last week, so the install will have to wait until next weekend. As will my write-up. Am contemplating drilling the tailgate for the camera so I don't lose the key function.

For the new unit I purchased, grounding the Parking Brake lead alone does NOT bypass the video lockout when you are in motion. The GPS function can tell that you are in motion, even with the P-brake grounded. It puts a warning on the screen to tell you that you've incorrectly installed the P-brake signal to the unit. Then it goes into the video lockout mode. Video display comes back on as soon as you are stopped for a couple of seconds.

There is yet another pin on the unit that has been identified as a secondary bypass signal to allow video display when moving. You can look it up on AVIC411. Not for me to say how.

yeah these newer units are being sneeky with that video lockout. I would suggest you hit some car audio forums and see if anyone knows how to bypass it.

I have had mine since JUne and haven't had any problems with mine.I got my rear cam yesterday,i will install it over the weekend. It's too damn cold here.:frown:

your more then welcome to drive up to NY jahmaka to install it in my warm garage, lol! Just need to finish reorganizing the shelving situation now because i just finished painting my garage floor black.

my garage queen is at the shop getting the motor fixed. its a 1991 Carrera 4...but they share the space. Garage king and queen sleep in the same bed.

Hey for what its worth, i just put white reflective tape around the white trim of my garage door. Now when i back up at night the reverse lights make the tape reflect and i can see the garage alot better at night through the camera. Looks really cool when i back up now.

ZJ2UZJ100, I'm sure we'd love to see a pic of the final install.

I don't know if this is the case on the LC, but on the LX, the bezel around the Nakamichi bends outward from the dash toward the seats from about halfway up the radio to the top of that space. If the LC has this, how did you adapt and/or what aftermarket bezel/install kit did you use?

Looking forward to saving my nickels and dimes for when my Nakamichi finally kicks the bucket and I buy this one.

i just put a flat peice in cutstom cut from a sheet of abs plastic to fit. That little gap at the top bothered me orginally but ive since gotten over it, i guess i COULD glue a tab behind each side at the top to keep the shroud pushed up against it but...thats the least of my worries.

My nak kicked the bucket and then i got it replaced under warranty. Then it started to show signs that it was going to do it again so i said screw it. I still have a nak headunit sitting in the basement in a plastic box incase someone wants to buy it for cheap.

With the LC you don't need any bezel around the radio.the head unit fits right in the hole,as for the LC with stock nav you will need a custom bezel.

So did it fit in the key hole?I will be doing mine this weekend.

LX470 Pilot

The 2000 TLC dash bezel fits nicely around the AVIC-Z1 without any mods. It seems like a perfect fit to me. Pulled out Factory radio/6CD changer unit, inserted Z1. I never had to use the Dremel or XActo.

The bezel comes close to touching the top edge of the unit, but there's enough clearance for the screen to move in and out. If I smacked on the top of the dash, it might bang the top. The HU sticks out farther than the LC bezel at the opening, all the way around.

I didn't install the plastic trim ring that comes with the Pioneer. I'll get some final pics to go with the install writeup. You'll see there are no obvious gaps.

So, back into the garage tomorrow to work on the rear camera install.
Wifey also mentioned a few bumps and turns caused the audio to go quiet several times this week. I might have a loose power connection somewhere.

Thats how my tailgate looks.

Wouldn't you be better off with the cam at the top, above the window? Better view / angle, see the corners better?

Opinions?

Q: What angle are the cameras you use? I've seen anything from 90 to 150 degrees view. That will decide the best mounting position.

i have the camera more for backing up long distances...i usually like to drive in reverse a lot. I have 5% tint also, so at night i cant see out the back window that well, and i use the camera as a sort of rear view mirror. Also really helps when the cargo area is packed with ish and i cant see out the back window thru the mirror....so i just use the camera.

Yeah it sucks that i cant see the actual bumpers of my truck and the car im parking in front of but, i didnt want to go with one of those little box crap camera hanging off my car.

Now if someone really wanted to ied assume, they could take the standard LX470 rear camera that mounts between the two licence plate lights and wire that up to work. But its a weird fish eye and you cant really see behind you, just whats right in front of the back bumper.

it was raining when i took this picture, but its my friend in a Lexus GS behind me at a light. That shows my field of vew

Well, had to abort the camera install this weekend. The barrel camera I purchased through the website mentioned elsewhere (maybe on AVIC411?) was a wee bit too large in diameter. It is 1.28" and the keyhole would required a cemera no larger than the 1.1" and some reaming. If I ream the keyhole, it will be unuseable for the key cylinder in the future. So I figure I will just drill a new hole for the camera. Gotta get another hole saw set. My kit doesn't have the right sizes.

Meantime, ran the cable from the radio into the tailgate, and capped it off for install later. Fun with interior trim panels. Interesting how far and deep into the quarter panel grains of sand can travel in 5 years.
