I am talking about american made not Australian. Oh and I've owned a few bicycles and a pogo stick. But never a skate board.

Wow...what is that I see only 2 American models ^^^?

I can't name a single new American car that I would want to buy.

Yeah, but there were some sweet older ones eh'.

Yeah, only two; three if you include the motorhome. I grew up learning the lessons from my Father's experiences. He started out with 69 and 74 Toyota Coronas, then switched to US products at the guilt of my grandfather. After pathetic ownership experiences, he switched back to 82 2wd Toyota pickup and 83 Toyota Cressida, then switched back to US automakers again. I can't remember one problem with those Toyotas, but can recall many issues with the Chevy and Fords he owned. Everything from bad automatics, fading paint on a garaged vehicle, etc. Today, he still owns GM products (06 Corvette, 05 Crew Cab Diesel Duallie), and I own three Toyotas. Now that I know how to import, its only a matter of time before I sell the motorhome and import a Toyota Coaster.

Interesting...Yep, I came from an "American" car family. Nothing but problems from my Grandpa's Fords, but he keeps buying them. He had one Toyota pick up that he comments had no issues at all mechanically but rotted out all around him so there was nothing but holes...:lol:

I always liked the big V8 boats. Well, growing up anyways, now that the gas is killing us, I enjoy my wifes Matrix.

Heh heh...this is fun.

Like Ken, I started driving in the 70s ('78 to be precise), but unlike Ken, I have owned very few vehicles in my day. I was some combination of "damn hippie" and "starving grad student" for so long that owning my own car was just not really an option. So, I will add a few that I didn't own, but was principle driver of to make the list more complete.

Non-cruisers:

72 Buick Skylark: (props to Mad Jack) mom's car that we all learned to drive on...nicknamed the "GasLark" and, towards the end, "StinkLark." Many illegal and immoral acts occurred in front and back seats

76 Chevette: mom's car bought after oil embargo to combat effects of GasLark. took my driver's test in it. total POS, Called the "ShoveIt", but with good mileage

7? Subaru Wagon: "Sammy", stepdad's car that I drove a lot in the year I lived at home after college...first 4wd car...had a short we could not chase, ended up being consumed in a huge fireball as it was idling in the driveway...yikes

67 Chevy SportVan: "Lurch", the first car I ever owned, acquired in 86, was my brother's for about 10 years, I traded him a bike for it which was pretty fair all around. had probably 350k miles by the end, absolutely primitive and fabulous. died immediately after honeymoon, which was obviously a sign. sold for scrap.

76 BMW 2002: "Zeke", bought in 89 to replace Lurch, match to first wife's '75, bombed around boston in it for several years, sold to a fellow grad student

80 Mercedes Benz 280TE: "Benny" a grey market gasoline wagon bought in '90, very cool 123 body (last of the classics), had some severe head problems, beat to hell by my dogs, but put a lot of miles on it. sold to a coworker who loved weird cars, rotted out on him.

90 Mercedes Benz E300 4Matic Wagon: "Benny 2", bought in '95, first car bought from dealership, literally driven by the little old lady, paid big money, $28,000 or so, and never had a problem with it. ex-wife got it, and it sits rotting in her driveway to this day

01 Volvo V70 T5: my current DD, bought in '02 w/ 18k miles as a dealer pre-owned for $30,000; was a rep's car owned by Volvo corp; nicely tricked w/ OEM goodies; old fart's stealth sport car; now has 112k miles and has been very good to me;

06 Honda Odyssey Touring: my wife's DD, only car either of us have ever bought new ($34,000 or so?, can't remember); cursed with bad yuppie mojo but an absolutely fantastic vehicle for everything hauling kids to hauling stuff to the dump; no regrets at all

66 Mustang Coupe: my wedding present to the wife; bought in GA for $4000, put as much into it for motor swap (still 289), rack and pinion conversion, powersteering conversion, etc.; starts and drives like a dream; desperately in need of paint and trim; sits next to cruiser in garage

Cruisers:

88 FJ62: "Larry" First cruiser, paid $9500 in 1995, took to Catamount, did some light wheeling, but was a DD. it had problems, but it treated me pretty well. got into a pretty good wreck with it, was totalled but I bought it back and had it fixed. sold to my good friend from home for $4000 (?), he recently sold it.

75 FJ40LV: "Loopy" based on its horrific handling, bought in 98? for $1500, ran great, complete rust bucket. wheeled some, DD some; Zebrabeef (Nick) blew the motor and swapped in another, taken off the road in around 2001 out of fear for public safety, parting out still continues

76 FJ40LV: bought in around 2000 from a junkyard as project/parts truck with ZebraBeef, never drove it, now getting rebuilt for Hedgehog (Mike G)

71 FJ40LV: obtained for free from friends of a neighbor who wanted it gone from their VT vacation home; staged dramatic rescue with Ken, Nick and ? during nasty snowstorm; used "just married" sign in back to fabricate heater vent and had live mice running around floorboards, but made it back; calculated value and sold to Chris Pals for half that; still in his backyard

85 FJ60: "Pete" my DD after Larry, bought for $7500 from Mt. Home Idaho, flew out to drive back with wife, caught in high desert blizzard and flew off the highway on first day of ownership; awesome DD and wheeling truck, hated to sell it but needed a more economical DD; sold to the beautiful YT treasurer Annie P.

65/66 FJ45LWB: bought for $4000 as a project from Rainey Kirk in TN, drove down and trailered it back with Nick; also got Rainey's impressive collection of cruiser parts in the deal; never got on the road, sold to Paul W for the same price when the truck below came along

72 FJ40L: "Woody", OEM softtop, by far the sweetest cruiser I ever had, bought from Mike G for $4500; owned and operated for about 4 years until I sold it to Flipper

80 FJ40LV: "???", you know it is OLIVE

Bikes:

'75 Columbia (stolen from mom's house in Atlanta)
'71? Crescent Warldmaster Velocipedabolaget (or close to that, sold to same friend who bought Larry, stolen from his house in Atlanta)
'77 Bruce Gordon (still have)
'85 Nashbar Mtn Bike (stolen TWICE in Boston, but recovered only once)
9? Trek 850 (found after someone's eviction in Brighton, fixed up and sold to same friend who bought Larry)
'9? Fat Chance Yo Eddy (PO was Randall who needed money to get married, still have)
02 Waterford GoldFinger (still have)
06 Windsor The Hour fixie (still have)
