Ok, I got a sweet deal on a couple of used 44's, so now I do own a spare. At most it will sit on the trailer.

Well I finally gave up on the military tires, they are recaps and too far out of round, on the pavement they tear up the truck. I balanced two of the tires, and one too 40 onces of lead, and still has a 1/2" hop.

So today I ordered some 37" IROKs to go on my usa6x6 dual bead locks which are 16.5" wheels. For a spare I ordered one for a 15" wheel. The standard 15" wheel will weigh less than 1/2 what the dual bead lock weighs, and the tire for the 15" wheel has a 6 ply / 2910# load rating, where the same tire for the 16.5 has a 10 ply / 3970# load rating. I'm suspecting that the 15" version of the tire will weight a lot less than the 16.5 version.

Looks like I will be beafing up ,my swing out tire rack. When I made my rear half doors, I made them two different widths, so I could mount a 37" tire and still get the one side open. But I was hoping to mount an amo box the spare tire rack to hold the welding leads and tools/supplies instead.

Gary, my 39.5" IROK spare on a 15x8" rim weighs $75 lbs

The same sized Irok on a 16.5" recentered hummer rims was like 130..

Sweet ride Steve!! Throw down with some more pics!!

yup, carry a spare and never leave home without it...which is lucky cause i had a slow leak in one of my tires and the next day while drivng 150 km i blew the tire to s*** and ended up replacing it on the side of the road...ill always carry one just for peace of mind

digging up oldies are ya :)

If I am at my local trail (6 miles from home, and I trailer it) I either leave spare at home or inside the tow vehicle. (I have never had a spare stolen off the trailer or out of the back of the tow vehicle, but why chance it with some of the criminals around here?)

And distance wise it is a pretty short trail, time wise, it depends!

On longer trails, I will almost always carry the spare with me. If I am going over 100 miles or so from home, esp when trailering I try to bring 2 spares and leave one with the tow vehicle.

Most of my wheeling that involved broken parts has been on the trail 6 miles away, that is why I trailer it. So I don't have to walk that 6 miles to get parts. AGAIN!

Long wheelbase Samurais are getting harder and harder to find. Good luck.

Thanks.

Isn't that an oxymoron? :D

Nope it isnt ya wise guy!:grinpimp:

Stock samurais have a wheelbase of 79.9 inches. The long wheelbase version was 14" longer with a wheelbase of 94 inches like a Jeep Wrangler. Makes a HUGE difference wheelin. I stretched mine to 100 inches.

hardcore, softcore, candycore whatever core you think you are or what clam to be. being prepared for a blowout is pretty important. but i also think were you are and how far you are from the trailer plays a big part on if you carry a spare. were do you put a spare on this:popcorn: passenger seat is out but is in fulltime so good luck putting a 39.5 in the back.

I dont carry one, just leave it on the trailer, But I do have a full size tire with same rim. dont worrie to much about using a a bead since I have beed locks and if I use a inner I have a co2 tank. and I just carry a tire repair kit.

Well simply not knowing why this is up for debate proves that you don’t run the harder trails ;)

Weight is the enemy when you are scaling waterfalls/ledges, and the weight of the spare could be the determining factor of you making the obstacle, breaking on the obstacle, or rolling over backwards because of bad weight distribution. Not to mention just fitting a spare (read 37-44" tire) none of this 33" stuff. I don’t carry a spare, we carry means to fix tires amongst my group, including a CO2 tank, lots of plugs and valve steams. Spares are left on the trailers incase of catastrophic sidewall failure. I have poped a lot of beads (need bead locks!) but it is never a big deal.

Here is a funny picture of me fixing one :flipoff2:

My 40's stock for now, ( I just got it)
But I've had other trail rigs before. And would'nt even think of leaving home without one.

"proves that you don’t run the harder trails ;)"

I've bent two rims on one, pussy trail after chaning the 1st tire I hammer'd out the 2sd rim to hold air.
Let's see you plug a bent rim.
