hey all, my unit just came in for my 2019 LC200. I opened the box and no instructions...nor do I see any on the site. Does anyone have any? I'll search this thread as well. I prefer not to mess around with delicate dash components so I am taking it to an installer who hopefully knows where to plug stuff in..

It’s all pretty obvious once you get in there. There are some decent videos on YouTube.

Just read through this thread and saw this on the interwebs. Thought it might solve some of the issues with slow charging.

That is nearly identical to what I found. The version I found was a circuit board that was made open source. I had the board printed and ordered some resistors. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong thickness and the resistors too big. Haha! But I've placed another order to have the board printed the correct thickness and the correct sized resistors. I'm hoping the board arrives soon for testing.

The long and short of it is that I'm hoping this solves the charging issue. We'll find out!

Please report back with your findings as the simple data/power cable splitters that people have tried don't work for this sort of application, unfortunately.

It's important to note that what I found is specifically for USB Type-C devices (Android). I don't know if iPhones use USB PD (Power Delivery). I'm assuming no they don't.

EDIT: Looks like I might be wrong?

Yeah, that's a good point and may not work with older iPhones that use Lightning connectors either way.

Hi all, Could really appreciate your help. I picked up the truck from the installer. I have a 2019 LC200 and got the Capacitative naviplus unit with steering wheel controls and wireless carplay. As heads up, the box came with no instructions...I forwarded some older model years instructions in this thread to the installer.

  • Touching NAV for a second switches to NAVI and I see a "NO GPS INPUT" message
  • When I go to Settings -> General -> Carplay on my phone..I see the unit and can connect to it. It shows up as ICAR
  • I do see a WiFi network being broadcast although I am not sure what the password is
  • My installer mentioned he left the HDMI cable unconnected and he wasn't sure what it was for. His take is they failed to give me a dongle that would bring all of this to life.
  • He installed the USB near the the tailgate switch. it is charging!
  • Mine came with a remote..mashing the buttons does nothing.
The fact that there is some response makes me feel like he just missed (a critical) step involved with the HDMI cable. Can anyone here advise? He swears that he triple checked that everything was connected.

Thanks in advance for any help!

These are the instructions I got from them by email I think.

There is a small IR receiver wire for the remote. I have mine under the center speaker grill if I need to use the remote again after the initial setup. Not sure what the purpose of the HDMI cable is, but it connected the two units together.

You should have received 2 metal boxes that the installer mounted somewhere in the dash/behind the screen. One box is a digital video interface the converts HDMI to the specific output that's accepted by the screen. It also works with the CANBUS system in the truck and will listen for the "long NAV button press". That's what the wiring harness is for. The other box is the actual Android Auto/CarPlay device that _outputs_ HDMI. The HDMI cable goes between these boxes. I've had a similar No GPS display as well after the dealer disconnected the HDMI cables between the boxes. Once those are connected, that message should go away. Also, don't forget to have the stock headunit on the AUX input. Audio from AA/CarPlay comes in on that input.

The remote is to go with the IR sensor that they mounted next to the START button. You only need it once to make a settings change listed in the instructions attached in the previous post. After that, keep the remote in a safe place and don't lose it.

Hi all, was wondering if you could help me troubleshoot a problem...I have noticed that my factory GPS isn't working quite well since the install. I'm 90% sure installer may have borked something.
  • "GPS" is not lit up on the screen
  • Nav indicates I am about 50 miles west of where I am...in the water
  • The steering wheel compass does not have my street or whatever street I am on...a nifty feature which I quite like
I did not do the install myself which I am now regretting...for those that did, could you envision how this might of happened? Is it easy to accidentally disconnect the factory GPS antenna? I'm not sure how to approach this. Don't want to go back to the installers or invest in pry tools. Perhaps I could take it to the dealership since it's under warranty

If you don’t want to go back to the installer or buy the correct pry tools (which you can get for under $20), you’re not leaving yourself with much for options. The dealer could reasonably deny warranty coverage if it’s something the installer screwed up.

I’m not sure which connector the factory GPS antenna is fed from, but something like a bent pin on one of the connectors could kill the GPS feed.

Assuming this has been an issue ever since the install, the installer ought to be given a chance to sort it out unless you were otherwise unhappy with them and just don’t want to ever go back to them.

Yes good points. I will give the installer a call and if they are not willing to give it a go i will buy some pry tools. I wouldn’t expect toyota to cover it under warranty I should of clarified that..I think they would just be able to diagnose the GPS faster than I could

My guess is that most dealers would either refuse to work on it or require the removal of the aftermarket items before touching it.

So, I finally decided to install the Naviplus. Installation went without a hitch. No broken parts and no extra parts left over after the install either (that's always important).

Unfortunately, my experience with Naviplus has been pretty disastrous. I have three ongoing issues and wanted to share my experience to see if my case is an isolated incident. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro, but I've tested with an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 7 as well, all with the same exact results. Here's my list of issues, in order of annoyance:

1. USB connection is non-functional. I have tried multiple Apple-branded USB-Lightning cables but I get no connection at all.

2. Occasionally, the music will stop playing and the screen will go blank. After a few minutes, it will come back to the Naviplus home screen (the black background with the huge red icons), at which point I will be able reconnect to Carplay. While the screen is blank, all of the buttons on the head unit are completely unresponsive. I pushed HOME, NAV, etc. and nothing works.

3. Sound sporadically drops out and distorts. Reminds me of buffer underruns on my 1980s DiscMan where it will skip a few frames. It is completely random, as far as I can tell. Sometimes it will do it every 10 or 15 seconds, sometimes it does it every 30 seconds and sometimes it will be fine for a couple of minutes. This makes the unit unusable for listening to music. I suppose it's fine for navigation, but definitely not for music.

Immediately after installing the unit, I reported issues 1 and 3 to Naviplus support. Issue #2 reared its ugly head a few days later. After a lot of back and forth with technical support (I suspect it's just one cranky guy working out of his garage), I am at a crossroads. I sent them a video of issue #2 where the screen goes blank, and their response was something to the effect of "you're doing something wrong because our product doesn't do that." Finally, they have "graciously" offered to repair it if I send it back to them. I said, well, no. I don't want a repaired unit, I want a new unit, especially since I don't really believe they will repair it. I suspect they will maybe test it for 10 seconds, declare it "A OK" and ship it right back to me. After I asked them to send me a new unit, they did say they'd be willing to send me a new unit if I pay an additional $400 deposit which I suppose they will refund once I ship them the defective unit back.

Now I have to decide, do I double down and stick with this obviously flawed product and pay $130 for shipping back to them plus an additional $400 (which may or may not be refunded), or do I just cut my losses and buy the EC Offroad version and throw this piece of junk in the garbage.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, especially from those that have the Naviplus and EC Offroad units.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I have no direct experience with Naviplus, but do have a fair amount of experience with the EC Offroad units; both their older version and their Sept 2020 version on my 2020 LC. I'd suggest reading the entire thread on the Sept 2020 unit and ask any specific questions you may have there. The EC Offroad unit definitely isn't perfect and has a few quirks of its own. At least 1 person is having problems with his being pretty much completely unusable, though it's unknown at this time if he received defective hardware, has some sort of installation issue, or simply needs to be provided with a factory reset procedure to bring scrambled firmware back to life. But several of us on IH8MUD have been using these newer units since shortly after they were released without any major issues.

Do you have the new version with the rectangular USB port that replaces your factory AUX Jack, or the older version with the round USB Jack?

Rectangular jack.

Ah, I’ve got the old version so I can’t really help there. I will say that sound quality in wireless mode isn’t great, and has dropouts. Pretty much everyone has this issue.

My screen will also go blank at times, but it’s extremely rare. I did have a defective NetPlay box which they replaced. They sent me a new one and I returned the defective unit without having to put up a deposit. I dealt with Steve (no last name). He was always very helpful.
