Ok, as a precaution, and since I cannot find a replacement, as Souq is currently out of them. I am looking to get my 60 amp awfully low for a diesel with air con alternator rebuilt. I am considering having them do it, and maybe they can rewire it to be an 80 amp one!! Or, does anyone on here, know of a direct fit replacement and where to source an alternator with more juice?? I would like to get this rig done!!

Cheers!!

Got it.... misread.

So, maybe if I'm lucky they will have one.

I just went to the sequoia alternator for my 80. 150 amps of electric awesomeness.
Do you think that would be applicable to an HDJ-80? We are talking a 4.2 Diesel with a five speed.

not sure. i doubt it would work correctly due to the operating range of the engine. the diesel doesn't rev as high as the gas engine. the stock units due have different part numbers. I didn't see any dimensional info. plus aren't diesels usually 24 volt?

Mine is a 24 for starting....12 for the rest.

^^ You sure about that?

That would mean you have a 24v alternator, and a transformer built into the truck to run everything else on 12v. Point being, you would need to have your alternator rebuilt to put out more amps at 24v. Also, to get more amps out of your 12v system, you'd need to make sure that your transformer circuit is capable of serving up your amp draw.

I was told by the PO that is how it is. He does know his stuff....

My bj73 is all 24v ,and has a converter for 12v stuff like the radio., how you can tell what voltage are you're bulbs.

UPDATE UPDATE Dropped off alternator at Carolina Electric early yesterday afternoon, just got the call it is DONE. He wired it to 160 AMPS!!! YEAH BABY!!

Make sure you upgrade the wire going from the alternator to the battery. You'll need at least a 8 gauge wire <4' run. ( 6 gauge would be preferred) Additionally if you have a fusible link on that wire you might need to upgrade it as well.

Thanks sir. Can I use any fusible link?

Just want to get one ~180 amps. Case you have a little Spike or surge. You can always put a 200-amp mega fuse in line between your battery and alternator just as a safety precaution.

Make sure to verify your 12v circuits are up to the task before you start drawing a ton of power through them.

I'll have them checked, thank you.
