Can't decide what tires to get

Wow.
For a second I thought this was a picture of a UZJ100.

Lol. Nothing special. Just 2" spacers I made above the struts. Got the job done. 215/65r16 KO2's on WRX wheels.

My mistake. I meant to type 65. 60 is factory and pretty much no one carries that size anymore.

The BFG KO2 does come in a 285/60 and I have considered buying it. It is listed as 31.4" in diameter so it is real close to factory. However, it is a "D" rated tire which isn't bad depending on how you intend to use them. Tirerack.com has them listed with a discount at $214/ea plus shipping. It's a wider tire than stock at 9.7", which would provide more traction, but virtually no more ground clearance than the OEM tires.

I am currently suffering from analysis paralysis when it comes to tires. I may need someone to decide for me :frown:

I was in the same what tires boat recently after buying an LX. KO2s were pricey, they get good (great) reviews but i had horrible experiences with my KOs years ago on my wrangler. I ended up going with Falken AT3Ws. Overall good reviews on mud and expedition portal. My LX is going to be 99% pavement and when its offroad will be beach or very mild wheeling since im in it for the outdoors and not the challenge anymore. Another big selling point was being winter rated. I have summers and winter for my other cars and LOVE my blizzaks but didnt want to deal with winter tires on this because they were so big and im already storing two other sets of winters.

Pep Boys had a buy 3 get 4th free promotion this month and some creative "this store will do them for this price" talking i was able to get them for $185 each for 5,with lifetime road hazard, lifetime balancing and a 55k tread warranty. That price was cheaper then i wouldve been able to get almost anything decent in that size shipped not counting mount balancing, tire disposal, valve stem, tax ect ect.

I recently went through this debate when I was looking for a Duratrac replacement (I can't recommend them, but I know others love them). I definitely considered the Wildpeak AT3Ws, but talked the tire place into taking $40-50 each off the KO2s, which brought them down into what I thought was a valuable range. I only have a few thousand miles on them and love them so far.

Check out the newer Falken Wildpeak AT3W, I love mine, they replaced Duratracs. Had budget for any tire I wanted but these ended up being quite affordable. It's a pretty new design so I haven't seen a lot of rigs with them, but have seen a few more in recent months, I wanted to be different. I did have an issue with one (taken care of under warranty) but it was pretty much due to something I did. Have like 8k on mine.

X3 for Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws [Lt275/70R18] - have about 1k of highway, round town and farm track use since fitting and couldn't be happier. Very quiet on the highway (basically no noise) smooth riding and nice compliant steering. Bargain at $580 delivered for 4 off DT Direct EBay deal with DT fitting + lifetime balance/rotation for $68.

I put Falkens on my pathfinder almost 2 years ago. They are toast. The worst wearing tires I have ever had.
I put KO'2s (285/75/16)on the LX and got them at American tire. $905.00 mounted up and signed up for their interest free Credit card and got 4160.00 back.
Basically got 4 KO2's for 745.00 and just used the pre paid cars for cable and internet bills.
They will probably have same deal on Memorial Day.

General Grabber AT2's, they're quiet, smooth, looks aggressive, and is a cheaper than the KO2s, i heard they perform just as good, and some reviews say it's better on snow than KO2s

Be sure to check out the Cooper AT3s...Expedition Portal did a head-to-head among several tires, including the KO's, a couple years ago. The Coopers came out the clear winner. I've been running Cooper AT3s (285/75R16) for 18 months in every condition. Both on and off road, they have been excellent. 40 psi on the road...18psi off. I drive for a living (50-200 miles a day) in my cruiser. These tires have never let me down. Off-road they perform nearly as good as many true mud terrain tires. I've been in situations (sand, snow, rain, mud, boulders, rock faces, ravines, off-camber) that I seriously thought there'd be no-way-in-hell I'd be able make it through, but did. I've gone down (and up) grades so steep that you're literally dangling in your seat belt...these tires were like gecko feet.

Telling you, they're crazy good.

Not for nothing, but that test was with the old BFG KOs, not the Ko2s, I believe. The new ones spank most of the others like a bad baby.

Not to derail the thread too much but where they the AT3Ws? or something else.

Just checking because its a bit unfair to compare tire to tire just because its the same manufacturer. EX i dont want a Ford GT because my previous Ford Pinto was terrible. Exaggeration of course :)....Id still drive a pinto for fun.

To be fair I also unjustly ruled out KO2s because i had KOs on a wrangler that were comically bad in mud, and downright dangerous in north east wet snow.

I believe you're correct on that. It was the KOs not the KO2s. If you're ever driving through El Paso, look me up and we can have some fun doing a real world comparison between the AT3s and KO2s! Love your signature line...

Thanks, man! I'd love to! That's a hike for me, but it does bug me that my cruiser has been more cool places than me!!

Good point. I have the Ropcky Mountain ATS. they are the worst tires I have purchased and that includes a set of Pro Comp MT's I bought off craigslist that were slighty cupped that I put on my old Jeep. At least those lasted despite how bouncy they were.

my past 4 vehicles, (3) Z71's, (1) TJ Jeep Rubicon, I have run (2) sets of BFG KO2's, and (2) sets of Toyo Open Country MT's.
The TOYO MT's are Badass tires, I beat mine to death and they held up. KO2's are good tires that look cool, have held up ok. I just bought a 03 LC and Im going to put new tires on soon, I havent made my mind up yet. KO2's better on road, ok in mud/offroad. Toyos not great on road and pretty good in mud/offroad. THis is just my opinion of course

How many miles have you got out of a set? I got almost 80k on my last Michelins on another vehicle. I am a year or so out from needing tires on my LC

KO2 in 275/70/18. Zero rubbing and nearly no impact to drive ability with a huge looks improvement. Given how long they last they are a great value if you ever plan to drive off-road.

BFG ATs in my experience have been nothing short of stellar. My last set lasted 55k miles on the 100 and still were usable, but I wanted to switch out to some dedicated snow tires so got rid of them. This summer I got the KO2s in 275/70/18 and couldn't be happier.

I'd steer clear of the Coopers from personal experience.

I was planning on going with the Cooper AT3s for my next tire. Care to elaborate what you did not like with those?
