Can't decide if I should keep it, or sell 100 series for 200 series (5 Viewers)

Sorry if I didn't see it mentioned but, how rusty is it? That would help me decide if I were in your shoes... I went down the rabbit hole with the same question as you and ended up with an older GX470.... The price on the 200 series market is bizarre, the people think they are made of gold... its just a truck, i'd buy 3 100 series for the price of some of the 200 series on the market

Forget the mechanical questions and concerns of your 100 series lasting, the cost alone to get into a 200 really doesn't make sense for a guy like me

Its a florida car pretty much its entire life so no rust whatsoever on it thankfully

I drove a '16 200 for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. I had a 2" OME lift, ARB bull bar, Safari Snorkel, and a ton more goodies...but there is just something about a 100 series that feels more "Land Cruiser" to me. There is no doubt in my head that the 200 is the strongest LC to date and it will last just as long as the 100, even with the valley plate issues and head gasket issues. But for me the perfect daily and trail companion is the 100. It's a personal preference thing friend! Which one makes you pumped to get in the dang thing and drive...is it a 100 or a 200-250? I dunno yall...thats just my 2 cents.

Thats pretty much the route i am going to take if I decide to get into the 200, modedate lift, wheels tires, some armor etc, but there is just that little itch in my brain telling me to keep the 100! Only way ill know for sure is hopping in a 200 and trying it out. I guess I could buy another 100 and sell the 200 if I end up disliking it

If two cars are an option I would keep the 100 for tinkering with and buy a more practical highway rig for driving most of the time.
One car only? If you must have an LC for driving 25K miles per year then that's a tough one.
I'd probably still keep the 100 and knock off the deferred maintenance items on your list ASAP, or pay someone else to do them.
You'll be at 500K miles in no time!

If I could, I would put a 100 body on a 200 drivetrain. Not because it looks better but the outward visibility is better and the 100 has a certain feel... maybe the best of all the heavy duty Land Cruisers. The 100 actually feels more solid to me... the doors and hood close more solid... the leather seems to age better.

But the '16+ 200 drivetrain has numerous advantages.... not just the power of the engine. The gearing is better. There are no lower transfer case gears for the 200 but there are more final drive ratios available and so that lower first gear (crawler gear) is easy to obtain. I thought the 100 brakes were under assisted with 35's but I think the 200 brakes are actually over-assisted. Over is better than under, I'd say. The front differential and steering gear is definitely heftier on the 200. The rear 200 suspension seems like it doesn't flex as well as the 100 but I have to look into that more. Generally, I think 200 aftermarket goods cost more than 100.

I was in a similar dilemma. I kept the 100 and bought a 2020 Sequoia. 5.7 engine and a ton more room than a 200 series. They are cheap compared to a 200 series.

I’m the same position but for an 80 series. I got a P.White 07 470 with 148k on it. A big windstorm swept through and a big tree fell onto my parents house, good then the top of the tree fell on top of the LX so it wasn’t complete totaled. But my 4runner was flatten by the trunk of the tree, that was a total loss. Bought back from insurance replaced the windshield and spoiler. Just a whole bunch of dents that I’ll pull out myself if I have the time. All maintenance done to it too. I just can’t look at my 100 the same anymore.
Always wanted an 80 series just looks like a timeless machine. Also something to bring with me overseas since some roads around the world are narrow and hard to maneuver

it's worth recognizing that this is the 100 forum. We're all here because we love THIS version of the Land Cruiser. I'll bet the same questions on the 200 forum will yield similar answers, but coming down on the side of 200s. I mean, we know they'd be wrong, but still it might be worth stopping by that forum

And in 10-15 years down the road if I decide I need an upgrade the 200s will still be going strong

We have a 2016 200 in addition to our 100s. It's a great daily driver/road trip machine but IMHO doesn't have the same feel/"soul" of a 100, and it feels wider on the trails. The traction control systems are insane, but it's LOADED with sensors and chip driven features that I worry will be difficult to repair/replace as they get long in the tooth. Maybe it's unfounded, but I also drive a '99 100 because I like the tactile A/C controls and lack of navigation. To each his own, plenty of guys on the 200 forum that will tell you switching from a 100 was the best thing they ever did and probably a few who regret it. In the end, it's a very personal decision that can't rely on pure logic.
