Can you mount ski/snowboard carriers to a African Outback rack?

Seems like Yakima prolly makes mitymounts that'd fit the Outback bars, and then you could mount Yak or Thule carriers..

I'm sure you can figure something out fairly easy with the slots on the AO rack.

What he said. i just got off the phone with Yakima and they have mounts that fit the factory crossbar and/or bars of your AO rack. Call em: 888-925-4621

I'm sayin' duck tape and zip ties :)

Sorry couldn't resist.

I dont have the AO rack yet but I was thinking of getting it while I was out near Slees next year.

You can pretty much mount anything that has bolt holes and allows you to use a through bolt. I mount these bike fork mounts. It goes on at an angle, but fits and holds tight. Ask slee if they have any spare square nuts for sale. there are two sizes. The ones used in the perimeter track are larger that the ones used on the floor slats. I also purchased some square nuts from Mcmaster Carr that work just fine, too.

I picked up the rack

Do you happen to remember the size of your nuts (haha) that you got from Mcmaster? Did they have any type of special designation or what?

There are two different sizes.

The slot around the perimeter will accept an M8 (8mm thread) square nut, mcmaster part number 96887A322. The nut is 13mm square

The slots in the floor slats will accept an M6 square nut, mcmaster part number 96887A319. The nut is 10mm square.

Shown below is the AO hardware (eye bolt) with their nut, and the bottom nut are the ones I got from mcmaster.

I suppose that any nut that fits in the slot and doesn't turn will work. It doesn't have to be square either.

thanks! I never got the M6 eyebolts, I only picked up a bunch of M8s. I should have gotten some 6s
