My '62 seats are BAD! There is no other way to say it. A 4 hour trip in these, and I'm ready to trade this thing in !!

Here's the stockers:

I understand from all of the thread searches and reading that there are direct bolt-ins available. But, they are expen$ive. Someone suggested seats from a Honda Pilot. I couldn't find any of those. But I found these babies from a 2001 Honda CR-V.

As you can see, the color match is somewhere between "not even close" and "nil". But I and my sore back are past caring about that. Seat cost? $100 the set. Let's see if I can get them in there for cheap. (If I fail miserably, these seats will either be for sale, or I'll try 'em in my '40)

I'll post pics of my build, as I stumble through trying to mount these things. Feel free to make bracket/adapter suggestions.

Interesting....

I wish the vinyl on the side of my seats was that good.

Thats what seat savers are for. :D

I got seats from a Ford Focus for the same reason. The color was not even a close match, but driving was so much better. I just took out everything that was, or was supposed to be, brown, and I am going to start over. I think it should feel like an early 40 when it all comes together.

Can't wait to see how you tackle the problem, Good Luck!

I am in the process of mounting 2006 Ford Escape seats in my 60 as we speak. The passenger side is done, but I may pull it out and modify it due to some clearance issues with the rear heater.

I cut down the Ford front brackets and redrilled them off-center to fit the 60's front mounting holes. On the rears, I cut the Ford mounts off at the slider, cut the 60's rear mounts off at the slider, and welded the 60 mount to the Ford slider.

It took about 3 hours of measure, cut, grind, weld and fit to get them sitting in the truck well. I think the driver side will go easier now that I know what to expect.

By the way, the Escape's gray vinyl seats are almost an exact match to the 60's gray interior. The cloth middle section is of course different, but the vinyl matches great.

hi guys I have suspended seats,:bounce: has anybody fitted other seats on to these systems?

Rigger,

Here's what you do. Find another set in equal condition for an equal price and bring your rig to Sheridan. We will fab the brackets for your seats, I'll buy the second set from you, and you can go home in style.
As long as the width of the rails are within 1" of the same width, it should be a fairly simple fabrication.

Those seats look good.

Thanks. I was pleased to find 'em.

Toyrod, I'll be back at that yard soon. I'll look for a set for you.

I removed the stock slide rails from my driver's side seat. I put 'em in place w/o the seat:

I think, in hindsight, it may have been better to have experimented on the passenger side first  !!

I took the driver's side Honda seat and cut off the Honda factory sliders. After they were in pieces, I realized that the Honda slide mechanism is a better design that the Toyota factory sliders. Were I to do it over, I'd see if I could preserve the Honda slider and waste the Toyota stuff. Oh, well. Too late now. Gotta stay the course!!

I propped the Honda seat in place. Too high. I have to remove more of the Honda seat hardware.

Lemme back up a step.

Here's a shot of the factory Honda seat bottom. Look at those sliders!

After removing all of the Honda factory slide mechanism, here's the bottom of the factory seat. The general direction I'm going is to use some steel angle, maybe 1.5 x 1.5, to bolt the Honda seat to the Toyota slide.

I put the seat in the truck and propped it up on the factory slider. Still too high. I pulled the seat back out and removed more of the seat bottom. I'm determined to make this work by connecting the Honda seat to the Toyota slide rails. I need some plate and some angle to make it work.

Then, my confidence slipped a notch. I got to worrying that if I weld this mess together and it doesn't work right, I won't be able to put my factory seats back in. I need a duplicate set of seat rails!! Got some from a fellow mudder. They are in transit, I hope. I'll resume work once those get here.

Stand by for more pics as the seat install continues.

Rigger, I hate to break this to you, but the CR-V seats are very uncomfortable for any drive lasting more than two hours. I am not sure why, but neither my wire of I like these seats. It is one of the many reasons we are thinking of selling her 2003 CR-V. Handy little suv, but the seats suck. It's like their almost too soft. My 2 cents. I have seen other complaints about CR-V seats, but some people like them to. I just wanted to pass this along to warn you before you put too much time and effort into fabing the brackets.

Great!! [Rigger slaps forehead] Here I am all proud of my seats and they ain't worth diddly.

Well, I'll finish the job and see how I like it. If it don't work out, I'll put the stockers back in and call it education.

Thanks for the warning!

Hi Rigger, I found that the 60 seats are a little difficult to replace as the original seat bases are so shallow. I tried to fit a set of Holden Commodore seats (Aus) and they were too high, even after I removed all of the seat hardware. In the end I cut down the seat mounts and had some custom brackets fabbed. Here's a pic, it should make sense.....
