Sure, we can still be friends. Can that thing keep up with those teensy tiny tyres?

Tires

I tried 285/75 on the stock rims - they would not clear the upper control arms.
So, my tire guy ordered some rims with different backspacing without doing any research.
The rims would not clear the calipers.
So, just give me stock size tires says I.

Guess what? I have plenty of wheel well clearance, the truck rides plenty high, no loss of power (I did not want to re-rear), the speedo is correct, the spare fits in the stock location. My mileage won't suffer as much, don't need no wheel spacers, did not have to buy new wheels, I did not gain a bunch of extra weight and the tires were cheaper.

You guys who think bigger is always better.....just need to know how to use what you got!

So I guess you're saying... "No, it probably can't keep up so that is why I added the winch after trying desperately to fit tyres that won't embarrass me around the real trucks."

:flipoff2:

Very cool, Juane!

I agree with Jon - we need some pictures of the new truck. What color is it? I assume you are running the 4.0 liter V-6? How about the tranny? I assume the 5-speed auto, but maybe you went with the 6-speed manual. If it's white, we may have (almost) twin trucks, except that ours is a 2006. We love it so far.

I did bump up just one size in the tires on ours when we upgraded to the BGF A/Ts. I think the stock size is a 265/70R16, and we went to a 265/75R 16, so the same width and just a little taller. Haven't had any issues with rubbing, and the difference on the speedometer is minimal.

Can't wait to see it!

Evan

P.S. Did the Cruiser go to a good home?

Thanks Evan!
The 80 went to a very good home.
My partner at Cruise Moab, Steve, who lives just around the corner with wife and kid.
In fact, I just ran into them on their way out of town all loaded up with bikes on their way to Crested Butte.
They are LOVING the rig. It is perfect for them.

Sure, sad for me, however, there might be a nice consolation prize in the works.
If anyone knows of a late model, low mileage 100 for sale let me know ASAP!

Girlfriend hates it already due to the lack of room, eh? :hhmm:

We've decided the 4Runner is the way to go. Now we just need to build it up. A lot more comfortable than the 40, and not near the gas hog the 80 is. I mean if I can't have a 75...

I cry every time I think about using my gas guzzling hundy. It's costing about $70 to put 20 gallons at fill up and I typically get 260 -280 miles per tank. Don't misunderstand me, it's a great family hauler. It just sucks gas like the stuff is cheap. I can get 16 on the interstate as long as I go 75 and it's fairly level terrain. But it's usually about 14-15 on the highway. Steve's probably pushing 20 on the highway with his 4Runner.

We drove Deb's ratty old Astro van to Denver yesterday and came back in a 2006 Land Cruiser.
Dang, what a nice car. Gobs of power. Crappy mileage.
We are sitting on the front stoop, coffee in hand, looking at it. Trying to imagine it with bumpers, sliders, 35s and all that.....

So, is the 100 the :princess: ride? Her solution to you selling the 80 and not having enough room for los niños?

I have an '09 Access cab and fit 285's with 4 1/2" back space. But its also got 3" lift and Camburg UCA's. I still rub a little on the front cab mounts and back of the front fender flares. Flares are eventually self trimming :). The UCAs move the wheel just a bit forward and you can ask your alignment guy to bump your caster to 2.6 - 2.8 for a bit more forward movement. '05+ Tacos really benefit from after market UCAs, even the ball joint ones. They seem to solve a lot of rubbing issues.

Yes, we can be friends.

Exacto!
