Can the coolbox be installed on the Heritage?

I don’t “overland” and I don’t want to lose a ton of space in the cargo area for a real fridge. What I want is to be able to have a cold drink of water whenever I want while on long trips. In 2017 and 2018 I drove from Boston to WY/CO and back.

The advantage of the cool box is that it was always in reach. I never had to remember to get ice for a cooler. And it didn’t take a bunch of space in the cargo area.

But it’s not a fridge. If you are going to be camping and schlepping a bunch of food, then you need a fridge instead. My idea of roughing it is a three-star hotel...

I will say I love my coolbox more than I thought I would. I usually carry a cooler and use the coolbox to keep small stuff cool while driving
Agreed. The same is true with the heated steering wheel. When I bought the LC, I thought both were needless frippery. The first few winter mornings convinced me of the value of the heated steering wheel. The first long road trip convinced me of the value of the coolbox. I don't use the coolbox much day to day, but I love it on roadtrips.

To some extent it simply being different than the other 200s that roll off the line adds cost. Not that this fully explains the difference in MSRP or makes it “worth it” but these are production line vehicles and I doubt many people paying the premium for a HE are doing it as an investment or economic reasons.

15k is a large difference but if someone truly wants a third row/cool box/chrome deleted landcruiser a HE is a hell of a lot more simple and the costs would be closer than it initially seems. Start adding up different headliners, interior panels, carpet, no cool box console and AC lines/electronics, supposedly more durable seats, filling/painting the door rub strip holes (and what are the odds paint quality will be as good as factory), wheels, super high commitment and potentially irreversible changes to body structure, headlights (reported problems with the companies commonly blacking out housings)...

This comes down to how faithful you want to try and replicate it and what you value.

Me? If I were in the market, I’d be seriously considering a Heritage, in spite of the cost difference because they are special and don’t come with some of the stuff a base does that I don’t want. But as said from the beginning, it comes down to your money and how you want to spend it. Im not saying toyota didn’t recognize a profit maker.

A HE + cool box is possible, but you will pay. A $15k price difference further reinforces that point.

My take on why HE RR gets bad-mouthed...
-Toyota literally just plopped a basket *on top of* the stock RR. Seems like an incredibly half-assed effort...like an afterthought, showing minimal effort on their part.
-Also makes it sit impractically high.

With so many excellent choices for full replacement RRs out there...it just seems like a lazy way to create some sort of “_____ Edition” in some sub-committee room at T...with as little effort as possible.

That doesn’t make it a bad RR. It’s just that Toyota could have done so much more in several areas.
Gotcha. I got a yakima rack for 100 bucks, and like I said, make use of it. Far cheaper than anything else, for now. As far as height, don't a RTT, lift, get into that territory anyway?

The coolbox is one of those features to me that now that I have i would really miss not having. I like to travel with Nalgene water bottles, and I can fit two of the quart size ones in there. Along with some gummy worms, and I am a happy camper. Cool water after coming out of a hot factory in the middle of the summer is a welcome treat. Not having my gummy worms all melted is super nice too.

Its also nice to have a bit of hidden storage. I have the drop in storage tray, and any time I park somewhere that I want to leave my wallet or other valuables in the car I will toss them in the coll box below the drop in storage tray. That way if someone does decide to rifle through my car when its parked, I doubt they would lift up the insert and dig below unless they specifically new Land Cruisers and Cool Boxes.

Sure its not the most powerful thing, but it will cool down a few quarts of water in a few hours drive and its decently insulated for a few hours parked in the sun.

More durable leather in HE?? How long has HE been out for such claims to be made??

Semi-aniline leather is known to be super soft, never fades, and durable enough to be in the top end Lexus cars. Creasing does not mean less durable. I have not heard not read any 2016+ owners with ripped leather from wear and tear.

I know the coolbox is an option on the LX; does anyone know if the install can be done on the Heritage?
The console itself is $2800, the healer box is $3944, factor labor and all the misc parts, probably close to $10k.

All this talk about HE and above MSRP. Don't forget most New standard Land Cruisers can be had below MSRP. I got my 2019 model year in Dec 2018 for $7500 below MSRP. That was for any color combo I wanted. If you have money to burn, the HE sounds like a fine idea, but that black headliner does look pretty cool! Just MHO

HE has the same leather as 08-15 landcruisers, and while it is anecdotal someone on here has owned both and mentioned they thought the earlier leather was more durable.

Entirely possible I’m putting too much weight on one report. It *could* also explain Toyota’s decision to run the earlier leather if their concept for the heritage was for more rugged use and the new stuff didn’t hold up to wear testing as well. Which they’d never publicize, if it were the case by the way.

That guy compared a Brand new HE leather to old leather in his 40,000 mile LC.

Hasn’t LEXUS LX has had semi aniline all this time?? No Lexus LX owners have complained.

So HE is more rugged?? HE is a special edition to celebrate their long history in USA. It is NOT an off-road edition or package.

If your theory is correct, then all 2020+ Will have HE leather. Not the case.

It is kind of "off-road edition" in the sense they removed the running boards to be more "rugged/offroadable" same goes for reasoning behind the rack. Gives that impression of offroad. Since that is what the LC started as, a rugged 4wd

Had a 2016 and a 2010 and the 10 leather is definitely more durable. The 16 was softer and more comfortable.... but my guess is the 10 leather will look better at 200k miles than the 16. Time will tell.

Actually the report I am referring to was written before the HE even came out. It was quite a while back in discussion on pre and post 16 differences.

Also that theory has nothing to do with 2020 base models.

See TRD PRO on other Toyota vehicles.

Heritage is about its USA roots for 65 years. It is more of an appearance package.

Is your 2016 leather ripped or cracked?

Has there been an issue with Lexus LX semi aniline leather?

So that “report” that you are basing on was based on what then? Eyeballing?

I have seen plenty of early LC200 with bad looking leather on USED market. They are not any tougher than other Toyota leather on cheaper cars (Sienna, Avalon).

If the semi aniline has poor durability, then Toyota would have made improvement throughout the LC line up... just like the KDSS bolt.

We use the cooler box 9mo. out of the year her in TN.

I’ve owned both a 08’ and 15’. I sold both of them because my lower back couldn’t deal with the lack of support and the leather didn’t seem to give at all. I decided to give the 200 another shot and test drove a 19’ a few months ago with the family. I don’t know what they did but we all knew right away how much nicer the leather felt and the seats didn’t bother me at all. Now owning one, my lower back and overall comfort has been great. So, whatever they changed, I am very happy about it. My only complaint is the lack of thigh support but it doesn’t really bother me as I love my 200 too much to care. 🤗🤠

An appearance to make it look rugged to date back to its roots..

Also the leather from 08-15 is tough as crap. I've got an 08 with 176k now. I was shocked at how good the leather was when I bought it with 165k.

These are all nothing more than personal tales.

I had a 2008 LC. By 2012, I had 80,000 miles and the leather was falling apart and cracking on the driver's side as well as terribly creased on the passengers side. I had a 2016 LC, by late 2019 when I traded it in it had 65,000 miles and the leather looked brand new.

Fact: Heritage Edition leather is not as nice as the base edition leather.

Agreed, everyone will have different experiences. I'm basing mine on the one I purchased and few others between 08-10 I checked out trying to find one I liked.
