If the semi aniline has poor durability, then Toyota would have made improvement throughout the LC line up... just like the KDSS bolt.

I’m trusting other user’s experience because I don’t have a 16 to compare.

I never said semi aniline has poor durability. Besides.. the KDSS bolt fix was about 9 years too late and didn’t even address the ultimate problem, which is the bare metal face corroding into dust.

Well, you even said it yourself...the other user’s (ONE person) experience is based on nothing....because it was apparently an opinion made even BEFORE Heritage Edition came out. Why do you keep repeating that as a “source” To your claim? How does one come to a conclusion on leather durability on a car that has NOT come out yet at the time of opinion?? LOL

Have you seen some of the leather conditions on USED LCs from before 2016? They are not that pretty. Somehow you think that semi-aniline is less durable.

And we don’t even know if Heritage Ed has the same leather as pre-2016 leather! Where do you get this info from?

KDSS bolt is an upgrade to an area that clearly had issue. I am not sure if there is a solution to that issue...i am not car engineer. BUT, again, how do you know that the change in KDSS bolt won’t work?? Has there been a 2018+ LC‘s KDSS bolt that has corroded to dust like previous years?

Why do you love to make these kinds of leap of faith conclusions?

Fact: Heritage Edition leather is not as nice as the base edition leather.

This is the first time I have ever read this after researching post-16 200s for a while. Is this documented anywhere, or is it just based upon people looking/feeling the HEs next to base models? Sorry if we are getting too off topic here.

About the leather: I am really enjoying how worked up you are getting over this.

KDSS bolts: the lower face of the valve didn’t change and ultimately that is the problem. The new bolt will probably do marginally better but for those 200s driven in salty areas that don’t have a coating applied I predict plenty of those “improved” screws hopelessly stuck as well.

HE does NOT have semi-aniline leather...confirmed by Toyota specs and Eric. Now, is it less quality?? I do not know.

But to say that HE leather is more durable is just nonsensical. To say that it is less durable is equally so.

BUT, semi-aniline leather is very soft and durable...see my link above. It is basically the highest quality leather one can have in a production car.

It is not getting worked up...it is about getting facts straight. I am ALWAYS this enthusiastic way.

Thanks for the reply. I obviously have no idea about durability, but it strikes me as kind of amusing that Toyota advertised the "bronze stitching" on the seats without mentioning that the quality of the leather was changed...

Fact: Heritage leather isn’t semi-aniline or advertised to be anything special.

Reasonable assumption: HE leather appears to be the same as the earlier standard leather..

...that multiple people report being more durable.


In a few years tell a Pennsylvania 2018 landcruiser owner that has to pay multiple thousands of dollars to get their dissolved KDSS valve block replaced that at least the screws were improved.. that’s better than nothing, right? (Smiley)

Yes, they did tell there was a change......they left out “ semi-aniline” in the description.
