Probably amateur questions here, but does anyone know what the mud-like substance is inside the front tires (first 2 pics)? Note, just washed yesterday and have not driven through mud.

Second question, has anyone ever experienced tire wear like this (3rd pic)? I'm getting new larger tires next month and know I probably just need them aligned and balanced. Less concerned about this.

Thanks in advance.

The substance is grease that is leaking from your CV boot. You need to take it to a mechanic or the dealership. They can probably just fill it back with grease and re-clamp it. If it has been leaking for a while or you don't get it taken care of soon you may end up having to replace the CV which will be more expensive.

You probably need new tires as well if both fronts are that worn on the inside. And an alignment to fix that. Your torsion bars might be a little saggy.

Yeah it's leaking on both sides, was planning getting brakes done soon so I guess good timing to fix everything...and will probably end up getting new tires at same time.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Based on the tire wear, it looks like you're running a lot of negative camber. Is the wear the same on the left and right tires? Any changes to the front (e.g. lowering the front height, adding any weight like a bumper)?

Yeah everything they said. Good DIY if you are handy. Lots of threads about it. Get pfran's awesome clamps too.

Title of thread could some work. :flipoff2:

You're alignment definitely could use some adjustment. Contrary to popular belief, toe will kill tires much quicker than camber. It looks like you have too much toe out.

I ruined a set of AT's with too much toe. Drive like crap as well.

Same wear on both front tires; had same issue with last set. Only thing I have done is adjust the tbars to level in the front, nothing else. I'm taking the truck to ACC, a local cruiser shop in town to get everything worked out... I'll be sure to ask them everything you guys have mentioned. camber, toe, etc...

Wish I had more time for DIY jobs on the LC- for now I have to pay someone.

Think I'm going to do everything at once in a few weeks, tires, lift, etc.. maybe a few other things. Will be sure to post before and afters- and will give update on CV boots and tires. tks again

fordhudson, I was in a Firestone shop on Thursday getting my Land Cruiser's alignment dialed-in after installing Bilstein HD's and OME 865s, and I swear the picture they had to illustrate too much toe out was your tire!

Since we're talking alignment, here's where I ended up. Lovin' the .9/.8 swing in camber (asked for .5 negative). Just happy they aligned it to Land Cruiser and not 4Runner specs. (:flipoff2: Nick)

I noticed while under the truck recently I've got a bunch of caked on grase all around the CV boots as well. Guess this is common. I'll have to get the boots replaced soon.
