Calling all '06-'07 LC Owners

Do you have the optional AHC on your '06-'07 Land Cruiser?

06 w/AHC, 210K no issues

Keep in mind, this little study has a glaring flaw - "category-involved" guys (a.k.a. Mudders) tend (or trend) toward non-AHC versions. So, the non-AHC is very likely to over represent here.

2006 with AHC

Mine works well... but have had issues when I load it up and pull a trailer with the height defaulting to N if I try to raise the truck. I have new rear springs (OEM AHC) on order.

Does it return to N while in park or after you start driving?

Good point! Not sure if we've polled all of our current active members, but it looks like 62% came with AHC while 38% came without. As I said when I was searching I couldn't find a single '06-'07 in my area without AHC. Perhaps the large number of LC's on here without AHC is because of the "category-involved" guys?

Non-AHC was one of the requirements when I was looking,
along with low miles and no DVD player in rear seat.

Some one should start a business bringing those in. I bet people would buy them. I did... Ha ha

I wouldn't recommend it! It wasn't a profitable venture for me.

2006 w/ AHC...looked for months and could hardly find a good one much less being picky about AHC. I actually like it but easily removed once its breaks and costs 4k to fix.

2006 with AHC... Just had my 120K service done and was told it's $500+ to replace a weeping shock.
Planning to rip out the entire system and replace with a OME 2" with heavy duty springs to handle bumpers front and rear!
A lot of them weep a little, unless its gushing I wouldn't even worry about it, just top up the fluid once a year.

I told the dealer NOT to replace it, bought a Liter can of AHC Fluid and I'll top it up as needed until I settle on my suspension upgrade. I'm looking hard at the Ironman System from Iron Pig Off Road

High neutral pressures will contribute to weeping from the shock actuators. Often it's self correcting - get the pressures down to their mid point within their respective tolerances and the weeping stops. Assuming the shocks arent damaged or the fluid is too old and crappy that is. I feel for people who pay through the nose to have weeping AHC shocks changed out if the root cause hasn't been addressed.

Please explain what you mean about neutral pressures in the shock actuators. I don't work on these systems that often. So your saying that in the medium ride height setting the system pressure can be too high?

Yes, high neutral pressure is probably the #1 issue for these systems. Luckily it's the easiest to manage and correct. Neutral pressure refers to the pressure output by the pump to lift the vehicle from L to N. Readings of 6.9 +- 0.5 MPa front and 5.6-6.7MPa (as read via techstream) are specified. If pressures are too high it's detrimental by way of reduced load carrying capacity, poor damping, leaking shock actuators. Too low pressure also has negative effects. Three things that are crucial to a balanced and correctly operating AHC and AVS are height;weight and pressure. If you change one factor you need to compensate somewhere.

Now I have an 06 LC without ahc.

.

She went to the bump stops when I tried to raise her up. 5 of us and ~300# of gear in the truck, and the M416 behind. I shut her off... walked around a bit. Moved the kid in the third row to the middle and restarted the truck... and she settled on N. I took that as a sign and headed out the way we came. The new rear springs are here but I am going to wait until spring to install.

PADDO,

The way I read your response... it would be theoretically possible to equip a 100 w/AHC with front and rear armor, and then buy springs/TB to compensate to for the weight to get you back to the correct pressures and leave the AHC functional. It is actually a really neat system. The ability to give you additional clearance as needed but still be able to hunker down for those long interstate stretches is quite desirable.

New '06 owner here and mine has it. I live in the Atlanta area and looked for about 6 months. Don't know if I ever saw a single 06-07 without AHC and I looked at dozens on craigslist/autotrader.
