Howdy. this might be a "yer-dumb, go the to junkyard" question... but wanted to ask here before things got weird with CA smog police.
Little rig background:
85' FJ60. 5.7L Vortec V8 (L31-R block) running MPFI.
H55F tranny.
yada yada.
ALREADY BAR'd (have the doorjamb sticker, showing 5.7L and MANUAL trans)
Went to a shop to have my exhaust re-worked around my oil pan and get the old cats cut out since smog is coming and my NOx is ridiculously high as I have a bad cat.
Shop wouldn't touch my rig, since I didn't have an emissions sticker with the "Engine Test Group" on it. I'd never heard of this before, since I just hit Summit racing for the OEM cats for the engine / truck my V8 came out of... but had never had the issue of needing to prove that this FJ is now (In the eyes of CA) a 96' 5.7L Tahoe. Simply, I need an emissions sticker.
I contacted BAR via phone, who apparently didn't even know I owned the vehicle... and they referred my question to a local Ref, who'll call me 'soon.' *shrug*
Questions:
1) I believe this "test group #" is used to determine the appropriate cats for the truck, yea?
2) Should I get the TOYOTA FJ60 Emissions sticker? The 96' GM TAHOE emissions sticker? Or BOTH?
3) Is this something I need to order from GM / Toyota or can I use the cruiserparts.net / Pick-n-Pull method to get these things.
...I just didn't want a rattly cat any more... and here we GOOOOOOO haha.
Thanks 'Mud.
