Kevin, you freakin' jinxed me. My YORK :censor:ing seized today!

Totally un-cool.

Rock-off . . .

Huh? You are kidding right?
No dude. Hitting pavement at the bottom of Coyote Canyon, I filled three tires and was heading to the fourth when a horrendous blood curdling screech started under the hood. I tried to spin the clutch with the first available large stick and could not get it to turn. It's done.

I just checked to oil level a couple of weeks ago also. All WAS good.

Oh man, sorry to hear Reid. That just ain't right.

Sorry Reid, but its another fine example of the extremely fickle York compressors. I have seen BRAND new ones seize and or explode, very random

Just be thankful that it didnt take anything out with it in the process!

See, i really do know what i am talking about people! :flipoff2:

I'll vouch for that.

It is a pretty crazy coincidence though . . .

I better check the YORK's oil for sugar.

You better be joking! :flipoff2:
No, seriously. :flipoff2:

Check this out. I pulled the fittings off of the top of my YORK and sprayed some Pro-Long lube into the inlet and outlet. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and then tried to turn the clutch. It turned over fine. I added a little oil and ran it for about 5 minutes without any ill effects!?!

However, in the process of doing all of this, I discovered another issue:

That is a crack clean through a weld on the YORK mounting bracket. So now instead of four bolts in a row holding it up, as Kevin mentioned earlier, I now have two.

I got this bracket from Slee (it's the Great Lakes Waterjet version). I doubt they'll cover it, but I'll give them a call anyway.

Get that thing off of there.

The York is TOO HEAVY for that bracket and the way its designed, plain and simple

Even if they did cover it, it is showing a design flaw, sure you could fix it, weld it, brace it and then the stress would be moved elsewhere, to the already delicate head.

The stress was enough to crack 2 nice looking welds right down the middle, the bracket is putting WAYY too much stress on those 4 holes man!

Your playing with fire dude!

Yes, its a cool mod, we all know that, kudos to you for doing one of the only clean installs i have seen (most are butch).

But until they come out with a real, well thought out bracket (this one is not) i wouldnt even think of putting one on my rig!

Want to quote me again? Here ya go:

[kevinsquote]
If You Fix That Bracket and Keep The York On There, one of 2 things are going to happen:
Option 1: It seizes again, this time you dont get so lucky, it throws the belt, takes out your water pump and radiator (seen it happen in person)
Option 2: You re-weld and fix the bracket, now all of the stress is on the head and it pulls the threads right out of the head, possibly craking it!
[/kevinsquote]

Go ahead, test me! :D

You might look at this as negativity on my part, i call it experience! :flipoff2:

NOOOOOO!

Your last 'prediction' came true. Now I'm doomed unless I take action. :censor:ing thanks.

There is some new fangled bracket being discussed in the 80's tech section. Although I haven't looked at it.

True! :flipoff2:

If this is the one that your talking about: Planet 4x4 - Installing On Board Air on a Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80

It still appears to have no lower mounting points, meaning it is still pivoting on the head.

Unless my eyes are going bad, this bracket only uses the same 4 IN LINE bolt holes!

Yep. I just went and found it. Looks like the same four holes to me also.

Thanks for the advice K. It's appreciated no matter how I come off sounding. :hillbilly:
