I'm officially a traitor. I sold my 100 to wtmtnterror today. I'm sad. But my wife is very happy to "have her husband back."

The 100 was awesome. I realized my goal of building a Moab capable 100. I completed an epic 2000 mile adventure across California, Nevada and Utah with great guys I met on MUD. There's definitely a ton of love, sweat and profanity put into the 100.

But we needed to simplify our lives. It's not easy to maintaining truck of this age that gets used offroad regularly when you work 80hrs a week and live in an urban condo where you can't fit into the garage.

So we picked this new JKUR on Saturday. The second to last one in the country in what I like to call "FJ62/4Runner Grey." It's my first new car. And I look forward to seeing what this warranty thing is like. Both my wife and I have always liked Wrangelrs. And Jeep finally makes one almost as reliable**, comfortable and capable as our Land Cruisers. I'm also hoping it will help get my wife to enjoy the hobby more.

I know how much we all hate car payments on MUD. But when you plug in all the numbers, owning an "Expedition built" Land Cruiser probably costs about as much each month as the payment on the JKUR. And costs a lot more time. You can see my traitorous thoughts on this ExPo thread. http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...-to-Jeep-Rubicon-Unlimited-Capability-Comfort

The plan is to see go minimalist with the new truck and see how much we miss all the mods.

Don't worry, I'll probably be back in the 200-Series section in a few years when we have kids.

Best of luck Adam and I hope you find what you're looking for!

I like the JKUR too. Good choice.

But payments are evil. Good luck and congrats.

Not the first and won't be the last to go the Wrangler path. I'm still ok with a never ending to do list on my 14.5 year old 100 but the new 4Runners have been catching my eye more and more. Maybe someday

Thanks Spressomon. you've been a tremendous resource. Seeing you take the blow torch to your front LCA bushings didn't hurt the decision. Ha.

I love and hate the never ending to do list. But other parties don't. Aka my wife, my partner at work, etc.

Payments aren't so bad when you use the funds from your truck to pay off higher interest rate student loans. ;)

I'll still poke around on MUD answering newb questions.

Annnnnd I just read 19 pages on why to buy a Jeep lol.

Anyways, nice choice man. A friend at work has a '14 JKUR and I have to say the thing is pretty damn nice. If it wasn't for :princess: and everything she needs for a 3 day camping trip....

Ha, did you read that thread? I'm pretty impressed with the interior for it being a Wrangler. The two tone dark saddle is pretty fancy IMHO. It has all my must have interior features: tan leather, heated seats, auto climate control, auto headlights, some way to play music off my phone.

285 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and over geared diffs is a fun change of pace, literally.

Nice new ride, Adam! The new Wranglers are sweet. If Toyota was smart they'd provide something that can compete with the JK. Once Jeep adds that diesel to the JK line, it will really set it apart. Top off and trail worthy are pretty hard to beat..... especially when you live in California. Enjoy it!

When Jeep finally brings the Unlimited to the US with a diesel I may very well be dabbling in that pool myself

First Nick and now you. Sorry to see you go, please do stick around and continue to share the knowledge you have. I fully understand the decision, the regular, and sometimes weekly, fill ups at $80+ are getting really old.

sad to see u leaving , but best of luck
just be aware , my girl has a jeep too and what i have learned is jeep does things very different than Toyota , I’m still having a hard time to understand the reason behind them (maybe i drove toyotas from day 1) , but i guess if you drive your jeep long enough you'll get used to it .
best wishes

^ Curious: Do you still need to carry SAE, metric, BSA, torx, etc. tools or has Jeep gone to consistent fasteners?

Good luck Adam. It was always a pleasure interacting with you sir.

C'mon back and say hi when you can.

Regards.

I believe so. There are a lot more Torx bolts than necessary. I've been carrying both SAE and Metric for awhile since the OEM bolts on the Land Cruiser were Metric but most of the mods used SAE.

There are definitely some, "why did they do it like that?" moments on the Jeep. I just hope it'll be as reliable as a 14 year old LC.

That was my thinking as well. But I don't think the diesel makes too much sense in the US. Only 8% of the GCs are diesel. It would be a $3000-5000 upgrade on an already price-inflated 4x4. With the price of gas in the US (not counting CA), it would be hard to make up for that $5000 in gas savings. The JKs already have a decent range with the AEV fuel caddy. Some extra torque would be nice though.

FWIW just about any new vehicle today will make it trouble free the first 100k miles and many will go 200k without much non-PM type input; save the anomaly that finds its way to the interweb ;). Can't say that about the cars from the 70's and 80's (and prior of course)!

I am curious to hear your comparative comments, after you've put 10K+ miles on it including some DV washboard time, to your 100. Specifically ride quality, interior noise, cargo capacity and getting in/out of it frequently (I ain't getting any younger :D).

Will do. The first 10k miles will be relatively stock though. I bet the washboard ride quality and cargo management will improve when I can put 34" tires and an AEV lift on it. My main concern right now is the break over angle. The wheelbase is longer and its belly is much lower than the Land Cruiser.

My little sister has a new JKU, and I actually really dig it. I have thought about going that route myself, but I'm a numbers guy and so far in my 2 years of owning my 100 series the blue book value has...gone up $300! :D I've had some ridiculously expensive to own vehicles, and I'm now enjoying payment free, depreciating free (almost), uber reliable car ownership with ridiculously low registration fees and insurance to boot. The only thing that's expensive is fuel, but I bike to work when it's warm and have motos for the weekend too. Anyways, I digress..congrats on the new truck it looks really nice! I hope you and your wife enjoy spending time together in it!

Congratulations on the new ride. We have both a 2010 JKU Rubicon and a 2006 100 series. We've driven our (err, my wife's) Rubicon from South Tx to Colorado twice and to New Mexico once. It's been a good vehicle and relatively trouble free. I hear the newer engine is much improved over what we have. Hope you enjoy it.
