I'm going to say on the low side, 12k, only because it's a 2000 and the new owner is taking a $3000 risk in the transmission needing replaced early in it's lifetime.

Doesn't have the 90k service on it. Think I'll put it at 14,500 and see if I get any takers. Thanks for the help.

I've been tracking the following 2nd owner, well maintained 2001 LC, 98K for a couple of months now.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/3206923701.html

I've watched their asking price go from $21,500 to the current asking price ($18,500). I contacted the seller yesterday and asked for a complete list of service records. They contacted the dealer who is able to provide the full service history report. As seen in the ad, the transmission was replaced in Spring 2011. I'm skeptical of the $6000 repair price on that one. If that's accurate, I'm thinking the seller paid way too much. If that's the case, I'm wondering if they trying to recoup the costs in the asking price.

So, I'll cut to the chase... Given the full maintenance records, agreement to do the 90K service, and the recent services listed in the ad, is this a fair asking price?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Just picked up a 1999 LX for 13,400

My first post. Just wanted to share what I paid with condition info for other owners to reference while shopping/selling. I had been looking for a couple months and it seemed like every fairly priced car was being snatched up within a couple days.

Mine is a garage queen, 113K miles. Interior is excellent. No stains or broken trim/faulty switches etc... Exterior is flawless, paint is like new condition, no accidents. There were no major mechanical issues revealed in the pre-purchase inspection.

Needs:
AHC is functional but probably needs a fluid flush.
Front rotors need replacement within the year.
90K service needs to be done.
Battery is older and should be replaced.
Antenna is disconnected (don't care).

How did I do? Seems like I did OK, knowing I have to spend an additional 2K or so at my mechanic to have it baselined to my satisfaction.

I may purchase a 02 LX 470 with 120K it has some issues.
Interior back two rows look like they were rarely used
Front leather shows wear no tears just not supple. Chip in wood trim pass side, some little other things (nothing that really bothers me)

Exterior
see pics

Service they claim the 90K service was done (no receipt)
It was not done at Lexus (I checked)

Body issues
Head light is shot driver side (rock)
Pass side front bumper is damaged
Pass side back bumper is damaged
Looking into buying bumpers from Slee to replace both damaged bumpers

asking price is 17250.00

I will be taking it into Lexus for a pre purchase inspection (110.00) opinions ??

For most buyers a pre purchase inspection by a dealer is the best money value they will ever spend.

well i was only concerned about timing belt and she claims it was changed in april at about 152k miles, i would definitely check paperwork for that since it was just in april not long ago. I was initially looking for 80s too but i changed my mind and want to go with 100`s, but im trying to stay close to 120k mileage. well good luck and i think 10.5k wud be very good price she is getting if she decides to sell it.

small world :). i was also looking into this same truck, i offered upto $9500 my max for the year and mileage from nada.com, but she said its worth way more than 12000 so i keep on finding reasonable deal and she keeps finding buyer. lemme know if you close the deal and the price you pay for it just curious.

Ok, so I went to see it today. Beautiful! The LC, yeah, it was okay. I almost forgot what we were talking about. Maybe I should go back for a second look :hhmm:

General - the LC seems to be in good condition, no major exterior dents or dings, no rust, drives good, minimal rattle (mostly 3rd row jump seats, so I tightened them up after I pulled over.) I also engaged 4Lo and it appeared to work but I did not see any lights on the dash to indicate anything was working (ATRAC?) Also, "D" light is out.

Sunroof - opens fine, shade closes, tilt does not work.

Mileage - current mileage is 163k or 168k (cant recall); not 152k

Timing belt - according to the sticker it was done 06/03/08, 103,415 miles.

Clean Carfax - there was apparently some hail damage (last year I think) and there are some dings on the roof. It's evident the hood, driver front fender and driver door have been repainted (you can see the "bumpy" texture in the reflection), however its looks good and I wouldn't be concerned in the least bit about it. Fender may have been replaced and did not have a VIN sticker. Nothing to note on the front bumper, but headlights did not looked aged for this amount of miles. Honestly, I don't know how these lenses hold up so I can't really give a comparison. Minor rear bumper accident according to seller.(bumper seemed slightly loose)

Price - I think it can be yours for $11.5. I offered $10.5 and she said call me if you change your mind. Realistically, there's not much wiggle room here, but that $$$$ gap between a nice 80 series and 100 series isn't getting any smaller!

PM me for more info.

Well after thinking some more I believe I'm going to keep my Tacoma. It just makes sense. It just runs so well and does everything I ask of it so there's no real reason to get rid of it. Maybe in a few years I'll cross over into the land cruiser world. Until then I'll lust over everyone else's land cruiser. Thanks for everyone's time and opinions.

thanks for detailed review, wow theres alot of misinformation in the advertisement, i mean from 152 to 163 is a huge difference, either the ad been up for quite a while and she drove that many miles or she just want to tell lower miles in order tio get better money. and it really sounds fishy how she told me different mileage at when timing belt was changed than what you found out, so many red flags, i would definitely not be paying anything more than 9k even if i would buy it which i doubt. you guys here at forum are very knowledgeable and helpful, i would definitely need yall`s help whenever i finally find one i want...:)... and yes you are right the other advertisements are also for the same vehicle. carfax doesnt show alot of record on maintenance it just shows the title updated every year. and i doubt even if she had the timing belt even replaced on the truck.

I took some pics on my test drive. I attached one of the timing belt sticker.

Sounds like you have made up your mind, but I'll throw in my .02 anyway.
I traded in my 96' Tacoma 4x4 for a V8 2005 4runner when I found myself needing an SUV for my new Lab puppy. After 284k miles, I missed the old Tacoma, but it was time.
I drove the 4runner with mild mods for a couple years, but it never really turned me on like the Land Cruiser does. When I sold my 4runner I bought a 2k Land Cruiser from Dallas. Flew down and drove it home. I knew the quality I was getting, but after the drive home, I realized how much of an "upgrade" the LC was. All I have done is 285's and dropped the running boards, but man am I happy! Your Tacoma is awesome, and I agree you should keep it for now. But when you are ready, which will be soon, jump into the cruiser world and enjoy true Toyota quality that you can see and feel everytime you go for a ride. Even if it is off road on some crazy rough trail somewhere!

Seems a bit high, like they should be asking $15k instead. It does look like a clean truck, but why did the trans get replaced? Did they tow heavy stuff with it up the pass and leave it in D? Seems odd and a tad overpriced to me.

I had talked to this seller as well, the maintenance history looks good. I too find it odd that the tanny
A-failed with so low miles
B- was so expensive to fix, I read another 100 series guys tranny failure story and it was about 1800 less to fix from the dealer.

I told the seller I would be interested @ 15,000.00

There is another really clean one at Gresham Subaru, super low miles at 73K. But again they are asking over NADA value. The online Autotrader add say 19900.00 I called talked to the sales manager he said they just dropped the price to 17999.00 That they are into it for 18100.00

Again I told him its a 3 hour drive and I would be a buyer at 16500
"Don't bother coming down"
I said thank you and hung up

Putting my 2006 up for sale

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/3225352353.html

I'll do $24k for MUD members but not a penny less, unless you want the VAIS out ($500) and the WK sliders off ($600), in which case it would be $22,900. I have the original factory running boards & roof rack.

I paid $24.5k 90 days ago, fully dealer serviced from a guy who owns two other Cruisers. I put $2k into it (90k service), then added the sliders ($800), VAIS (Sirrus & Ipod $750), full 3M window tinting ($600), front ARB fog lights ($95), Pfran's interior LED kit ($100ish), and Spresso's recovery tabs ($100ish). Also bought/have a complete set of door lock motors for when they go out in next 100k miles + LabRack/Thule Aeroblades (not included for $24k but you can have them for $400 (or just $250 for the LabRack mounts). I POR 15'd the bottom pans where there was some surface rust & rattle canned the sliders/factory wheels. It runs perfect. Just took a new job & am now driving 3000 miles/month. I either need to sell it this week or I'll park it for 2-3 years. Still has Utah plates & title---if you are in SoCal & married I can show you how to register this without paying CA sales tax on it.

Mike 818 314 2139. I'm in Pasadena CA area.

Don't be fooled by the "4.7l V-8.". It's slower than molasses in winter time. Just because it has more power than the previous series, doesn't mean it is fast. At all. Good, useable torque, though. Don't get mad guys, I love my new 100, but it struggles up freeway hills, stock. My heavier built Silverado with a 5.3 will run circles around the 100, and haul alot more as well. It's apples and oranges. The 100 is for hauling a bunch of gear and people, out of the rain, on moderate trails, with comfort and reliability. And that comfort and quietness goes away when you add mudders, ome lift and bumpers. Then it rides like a manure spreader. I love it.

You really need to upgrade the exhaust system.
As i posted here in my exhaust upgrade thread years ago it was like i had purchased a new car after i had done it.
I bought the LC new in March 2005 and the exhaust system went on at 110,000 kms on the odometer in 2009.

I had a first gear i could actually use, (yes mine is a manual V8 )and i had more performance AND economy and overtaking is now as easy as planting the right foot instead of waiting for a tail wind and a 3km gap!! (exaggeration there,of course)

Its the best thing i have done to my LC and i smile everytime i plant the right boot !!
cheers
peter
