I am going to look at a 2005 with 134k. They are asking just under $24k. From the pictures, it has some grocery basket dings and the leather looks to have some wear. It has an ugly overhead DVD (once on, those can't really be removed can they?). It is at a dealership that also sells/services Lexus. I don't see the TB sticker and will negotiate that if I go forward.

What do you think about the list price and what should I offer if it looks good enough?

Sold my 2004 LX470 that was a no rust anywhere, 60K miles never wrecked with all service records since new for $28K 1 1/2 years ago. I think its a little high

(Things I wish I'd looked closer at) Look for rust underneath especially up in rear coils and rear crossmember. Make sure the lumbar support switch works. Make sure the CD player works. See if the smaller clamp of the front CV boots are leaking.

$24k seems high. I just went to look at a 2005 with 89k in outside of LA, CA and they were asking $24k.

Wow. It'd be perfect w/ no AHC...but having a non-nav dash is pure gold IMO. I'd happily work with AHC if it meant not having to deal with the on-screen HVAC system.

Why is the non nav such a bonus?

Why is the non nav such a bonus?

Several reasons:

a) If the Nav controls your HVAC then there is no option for upgrading your audio. And if your Nav head dies you have not choice but to fix unless you want no heat/cooling.

b) You're stuck with the technology available at the time the first model year rolls out, which is typically less than cutting edge anyway. Not good for a vehicle with a 20 year useful life.

c) If your Pioneer dies, you're out $800. If your factory head dies, you're out $2500.

I drove it yesterday and these vehicles continue to amaze me. It had typical wear, but it was so solid. No rattles. Very strong. It may not be the right one, but I love these trucks.

All good points, I started searching around for them and they are pretty hard to find. Did Toyota ever simply stop making non nav LX470's or LC's? Everything after 2002 that I can find for sale now includes a nav system.

I've only seen 2 or 3 03+ cruisers on here without nav. They are very rare, but I don't know of any specific year that they weren't produced.

To add to what Fuzz says, Nav was always officially an option on the LC, just as 18" wheels and running boards were. However, this was probably more to get the MSRP down than anything as it was the rare dealer that ordered one without.

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a hundy sometime soon but how many miles are too many. Some good ones around me near 175K for under $9K and looks clean. I will need to check them out fully but What mileage should I be looking for.

I am thinking getting a 98/99. Doing a 2/2.5 inch lift, 33's, Bumpers, and then getting an ARB locker in the front in the future ONLY to get rid of the 2 pinion. I do not need a locker but that seems to be the only weakness.

Why are you limiting your options to the 98-99 model year? Cost? I only ask because the 00+ models come standard with ATRAC and VSC, which are nice from a safety standpoint. You lose the rear locker, but ATRAC compensates for that pretty well if you do your part as a driver. They also have a 4-pinion front end, which isn't bulletproof but stronger than the 2 pinion. You can add air lockers later and have the best of both worlds.

Mileage isn't at all a concern with these rigs, the only issue being that the older the rig is and the higher the mileage, the bigger gamble you are taking as far as how the previous owner maintained it. Higher miles = more time for poor maintenance habits to do damage. If the rig with 175K fits your budget and has been well taken care of, I'd say go for it. Just go to www.sleeoffroad.com and check out the 100 series buyers guide so that you know what to look for.

Yeah, only because I am going to avoid the 2000 due to tranny potential, I am giving myself a starting budget on a vehicle of around $9000. Some local ones are 98/99. If I could find a newer one I would 100% for the price as well.

If you find a 2000 with 175k on it I'd wager that you're safe. If it were defective it would have either blown up by then or been replaced.

Anyone used a nationwide auto inspection service to view cars that are not nearby?

I used AIMmobileinspections.com for a rig in Ohio and was glad I did, the vehicle had issues that I couldn't decern by photo or get the dealer to fess up to on the phone. Cost me $125 but saved me a plane trip or long drive only to be disappointed.

I'm thinking about using a different service like carchex or LemonSquad for another slightly remote rig. Anyone else used an inspection service and have any thoughts?

topgun, i picked up a 98 with 200k miles, great interior, crap leather and was overall a very well taken care of rig for $7300 in Atlanta. I replaced the leather 3 weeks ago and now the truck looks brand new inside and out.

I did the valve cover gaskets a week ago and the engine looked like it had 50k miles on it. Look around, great deals are out there.

The money i saved went directly towards regular PM stuff, OME lift, Snorkel and 33" tires with plenty left over.

That post has a bad virus attached. Been posted on Craig's List all over the country. Bogus as heck.

Ya, my virus scanner was grumpy after checking it out. But it gets grumpy at a number of CL adds so I didn't take it as being especially alarming.

I really wasn't in the market for a new truck, but you know how these things go... :). Found a one-owner 03 with 130k on the clock for a very low starting price. Here's the question: it has a replacement A750F in it. This is the first I've seen one of those getting replaced. Sure it's something mechanical made by man and anything can fail. It's just unusual and throws a flag for me. Can you think of anything specific to look for/ask other than 'was it used to tow heavy loads?' or 'why did it fail'?

Not owning a rig with a A750, I'm not sure what to say. I guess just dig as deep as you can and try to find out what the deal was. Did he tow? Was it hotrodded all the time and abused? Owner ignorance, ie did he drive around in first gear with the CDL engaged in low range on the highway in a snow storm while towing a scarab with the trailer brakes locked up?

I think your best bet would be to get the name of the shop that did the R&R, and call them. If it was fairly recent, the tech should remember as I'm sure there aren't a whole lot of 03+ Cruisers coming in for trans work. They might be able to provide some valuable insight as to what the real story is...but I agree with you - a new trans in an 03+ is definitely a warning flag in my mind, too.

ETA - Another 100? Ya lucky bastard.

<--- Jealous.
