Personally, I am always weary of car ads in all caps...

That being said, this car is priced to sell. Just remember you are going to have to put at least $1500 in it off the bat, and it's a 2000, so there is that whole transmission issue...

Good call, When I looked at it today, the paint was in terrible condition, the beginning of rust in the tailgate area, condensation in the headlights, the interior was used and abused.

I'm thinking the 2004 LX470 with 74000 in excellent condition from a one owner is the way I'm going to go. All the 2000-2002's I've seen are just worn out.

I recently purchased a White 2000 LX with 90k miles for 16k. I love the fact that this truck was made in Japan. The truck feels solid. Everything works except the 2nd row cup-holder.. Plan on making it expedition truck. Love this website!!! Thanks for paving the way for us newbies!!!!!

If everything checks out, the body is in good shape, and everything has been installed properly, thats a pretty good price on a built rig. I'd look it over with a careful eye and ask the seller specifically where he's wheeled it and what kind of use it's seen...and more importantly why he's getting rid of it. If it's been thrashed repeatedly, be careful. These rigs can take the abuse, but some deferred maintenance might be necessary.

Shoot for 12 and see what the seller comes back with, IMO.

2003 Land Cruiser

I found a 2003 Land Cruiser with 90k miles but a broken Air Conditioning System for $18.7k. The quote I got for fixing the AC was $1500. It was initially listed for more and I was able to get the seller to split the cost of the AC so they dropped the price some to the $18.7l I mentioned above.

Does that sounds reasonable? Even if I spend $1500 and buy the rig for $18.7 that still gets me a 2003 with less than 100k miles for right around $20,300.

Any thoughts?

Have you seen and driven the truck? There's a bit more to it than just the broken A/C -- has the TB/WP been done? How's the rest of it? What specifically is wrong with it?

If all else is good, it's clean, etc., I'd say it's a good deal -- proceed with caution though.

It's about 300 miles from me, I ordered a 150 point inspection from AIMmobileinspections.com and they will do a test drive and inspection on Thursday.

What is the TB/WP? From the pictures that I can see it looks in good shape cosmetically, will know more about how it runs after AIM does the test drive.

Timing belt and water pump -- should be replaced at 90K or so. That will run about $1K, if it needs tires, brakes, etc., it could add up quickly.

we just bought a 2001 100 with 87k miles from an ind't used dealer in sunny so cal. paid 18, plus shipping but for a rust free car on the east coast it's worth it. had toyota of orange check it out pre-purchase, and it needs nothing except that looming 90k service. so far pleased.

going to tackle a roof rack re-paint (OE rack) and swap the boring michelins for BFG AT-KOs or Duratracs and then a stereo upgrade. beyond a good detail (inside and out) it needs nothing, so i hope!

thanks for all the great input and ideas here.

this is our second LC, first being an 89 FJ62 that we drove for 12 years and sold to another happy customer over on the 62 forum.

if anyone has a good independent mechanic in DC (that isn't in fredericksburg) would love a suggestion.

Starting the search...

Been lurking for over a year now, decided to start the search in earnest, and have come up with a couple of options.
I live in Charlottesville, VA right now, so there are a decent number of listings on AutoTrader between here and the DC area. My main concern with a truck from Virginia is the rust problem and salt exposure.
I am from Atlanta and moving back next summer, so I do have the option of waiting to find something down there. Problem is I want to buy a truck now and enjoy the last few months I have exploring this beautiful state...
So, any words of wisdom? Prices also seem much lower here than they are in Atlanta - probably due to supply and salt - and the first truck listed below pretty much matches everything I want:

2000-2002, Roughly 100K miles, Good Condition, $15K asking price

Cars for Sale: 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Manassas Park, VA 20111: Sport Utility Details - 309191000 - AutoTrader.com

Next truck is also well priced, but I am definitely looking for dark blue, green, or burgundy...

Cars for Sale: 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Fairfax, VA 22030: Sport Utility Details - 303065788 - AutoTrader.com

Thanks in advance for your help! Have really enjoyed reading this site, and look forward to joining the community soon.

PS: Any concerns with independent dealerships like these? I do...

Best,

GD

Taco to LX?

Here is the long and short of it.....

Now a baby daddy:D and the growing boy needs to upgrade his seat...doesn't fit well in the 2006 access cab taco!

Thinking about an older LC/LX.

Don't wanna spend any money on the swap, so looking at 2001/2002 models.

Thinking I can get about $15k trade in on mine...there is this LX.....
2001 LX470 $16,995

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Will I be happy?

Yah none of that was changed. And the inspector found the check engine light and VSC light was one, she couldn't get the cruiser over 10 mph and thinks there may be a transmission issue.

Since it has the navigation and the AC doesn't work maybe there are some major issues with the main console.

Pity, the exterior and interior are in great shape but that doesn't mean much if the vehicle won't run.

Grocery shopping in lx470

2nd time out ..Back to High school spot HOLY JIM in Santiago canyon..Truck handled everything flawlessly ..gotta remove running boards and get new tires!!

Found a 04 LC with just 67K. It has new tires has been well taken care of, the dealer just went through it end to end. As best as I can tell from the carfax the mileage seems accurate.
It rides like new..
They're asking $26,500 and offering me $5K for our old 1998 with 233,000..
Looking at Kelly Blue Book, it seems like a ok deal..
What do you guys think?

Thanks
