drove a nice one today in Hilton Head SC...2002 with 150k but pretty much dealer maintained and has new timing belt and water pump...though they did not do the full 90k service as front bearings were not repacked but everything else was done it appears. Here is what it has that I found or my Lexus/Toyota mechanic friend found I will address:

1. Front bearings need packing
2. Passenger o2 sensor needs replacing...they did drivers side but passenger threw code so should be easy fix for them.
takes a new 02 Sensor and about 15 minutes
3. Wood trim over passenger window controls missing...looks like glue failed and it just fell off. Any way to get a replacement used or to just change out all the wood trim with something else?
If its the LC you can just remove it and have simple plastic, looks better to me honestly
4. passenger door woofer blown....are speakers replaceable or are they powered speakers like bose uses that I would be stuck with?

You can change the door speakers out with whatever you want. Pretty straight forward, just make sure everything is compatible.

Other than that it is in great shape and well maintained...

Thanks.....I am pretty sure the dealer will do the O2 sensor and maybe bearing repacks...but not sure on speaker and wood trim. I was worried Toyota did like Acura and some others and put those damn powered speakers in the doors that are a big PIA to replace as the head unit has no power.

Thanks for responses....also going to see if they will update the NAV software! :)

Okay, I looked at two rigs today....

1. 2000 Land Cruiser, 97k miles, very little known about maint records but was 2 owner vehicle...North Carolina and Georgia only. Body, frame, interior is flawless pretty much other than normal wear and tear. Everything works in vehicle except power antennae and it needs new ignition or to have the little copper thing replaced...which they have on order. No leaks, no odd smells after driving 30 minutes. Only thing I notices was a ticking sound during startup...and then again when accelerating hard. Almost sounded like exhaust gasket leak....at idle it does not do it only when starting or accelerating. Told them I wanted that checked out.

2. 200 Lexus 470, 4 owners, last one for 3 years, 130k miles, dealer maintained, timing belt, water pump, new brakes and rotors, new tires, new ignition, etc. Everything works perfect on vehicle except the UP/DN gear for steering column. It extends and retracts but motor went out so he disconnected and adjusted manually using bolt under column. AHC works perfect, no leaks, guy was anal about vehicle....two small dings in paint other than that it is scratch free...non smoker.

The Lexus is $1000 cheaper than the Land Cruiser plus is private sale so no Sales Tax...and he will have it delivered the 200 miles to me if I buy it (he works in car business so has old men as drivers LOL).

I am almost set for buying the Lexus....just a couple questions:

1. How difficult is it to remove dash and under steering stuff to manually adjust steering up and down? How expensive is it to get the one motor replaced?

2. It has new 18" wheels and tires that are only 3 months old....I am hoping I can find someone that wants to trade their 16" wheels and s***ty tires for this full set...even trade...so I dont have to buy a set and then sell these after the fact. If anyone wants a great set of 18" Lexus wheels with nearly new Bridgestone tires all around...give me a yell.

3. Would likely drive with AHC since it is working flawlessly...until it failed and then remove for OME or Ironman suspension with diff drop at later date.....but can go ahead and put the 33" mud terrains on now if someone wants the 18s. LOL

Any negatives or positives I have not addressed....as everything works great...Nakamichi stereo, memory for seats, sunroof, heated seats, cruise, mirrors, CDL, etc....

If nothing scares me away...I will be buying it this week.

The dealer can disable the auto tilt/retract steering wheel via their handheld computer thingy. So, the controls will still work, it just won't auto retract. Some dealers say it can't be done but I have posted instructions for the dealer in the past.

Brock,

If you haven't bought yet, drive up to Columbia and check out the '01 LX at Luxury Cars of Lexington. I put a link about three posts up. I drove it a week or two ago, and it's pretty nice. Seems to have been fully serviced and TB's changed. Don't know anything about the dealership but he's got some sweet cars on the lot. Just checked, he's got two, I looked at the white one.

Help on Purchasing Decision 05 vs. 06

Hey Mudders,

I have the option on two Hundy's right now.

A 2005:93K miles, timing belt just done $24K

2006:53K miles $31K

Trucks are identical, one owner, and immaculate (Model year light and spoiler differences excepted). All service records, same colors, etc...

I like the AHC and the extra horsepower of the 06 but also like the fact I can get 90K miles out of the 05 before a major service versus 40K on the 06. No AHC is a minus right now but could be a plus in the future.

My intended use is a family daily driver, snow country wheeler, and summertime boat puller.

I have just lived 7 years with a mildly built 80 and will use this one in the same way.

Comments???

Is this the one!

:steer:

I found a local 2003 Black Toyota LC. It is being sold from the original owner. It has 40,xxx miles. The owners wife drove it then their daughter. They are asking $23,500. Is this a deal I should jump on?

Ninja edit:

Body is rust free, bumper has a scrape.

What in the world is up with this interior?

I went and took a look at a LX470 tonight and noticed a couple issues with the interior. Overall the truck looks great but this bothers me. It looks like parts of the interior has some kind of patch work done. The steering wheel(along with the wood on the steering wheel having a lot of minor cracks), the drivers seat and door pull. Also, notice the sloppy upholstery work done on the Center Console.
What does this tell you about this truck? Like I said the rest of it looks great. they do need to do a better job of cleaning it though.

I would get the 06 for all the extra power and low miles

Very good price for 40k miles, jump all over it.

Buy the 2005, save the money and use it on mods. The power difference isn't big enough and the low miles really doesn't matter, this thing will last forever regardless.

Exactly.

Wonder what else has sloppy repair work ?

I'd keep looking.

I looked through the records on toyota owners online and it has been serviced regularly. I did notice a couple of items that look concerning. There were several times over a few years that he had EFI flushing. Is that normal? Also, it was notes that several months ago, owner was complaining about radio and nav shutoff and antenna was inoperable, they checked fuses and they all worked but they fixed a wire and now they worked. Does this sound like a NAV thats about to go boom?

question on particular 100 before taking the plunge

I have a found a local 100 series for sale. I looked through the records on toyota owners online and it has been serviced regularly. I did notice a couple of items that look concerning. EFI flushing would not concern me since it is a service that many dealerships push. The benefits are arguable but it does say the previous owner didn't mind spending extra money on car care/service. If there had been complaints of rough idle/lack of power and such during those periods, then I might be concerned.
