Assuming no rust on that car, I think 17.5 is an awesome price. Let me know if you pass on it and I'll buy it :)
Well I might have to wait a bit before I end up buying one so if you really are interested I can PM you the details. I am new in the market and might wait a few more months before I pull the trigger.

I been semi-seriously looking for another LX/LC. I don't really need it right away, I work at home, so I can take my time searching. It is to replace our 95 Avalon. It works fine, but it is getting old and I feel safer in an LC, plus the LC would have more cargo capacity.

Out of the blue, I have a chance to buy a 1998 LC with ~300K. Condition is average from the pictures. I do not see any rips in leather seat, but the steering is worn out. Seller said parking brake is not working. Seller do not sounds like someone who knows much about car, so who knows what else is not working. Seller wants $4K. TB was replaced about 70K miles ago, but unknown about WP. Not sure about rust, but I expect some surface rust below (KY truck, not TX truck). I will walk away if rust is extensive.

So this is definitely well below my budget, but also well above the miles I am looking for. We all know these rig will last a long time if properly taken care of. So my question is, $4K - too high? Too low? What is a good price here for high miles? I do not want to waste her time (and mine) if $4K is too high. Seller is about 5 hr away round trip for me.

4k is too high imo. I'd offer 3 but for me I would wait for another to come around.

too many negatives : its a 98, already above 300k, needs WP TB soon, unsure rust situation, 5 hr trip to inspect

Thank you @Warde. I kinda thought it is a bit high, but for whatever reason I like the idea of having another cruiser in the garage, and I do not have a lot of patience ha!

Wanted to get a quick opinion on thoughts on a particular vehicle I have been eyeing.
2006 LC, 196K Miles, asking 15K. One owner vehicle, shows clean on carfax.

Only service info that I have is that the following items were done at an independent shop at about 175K:
Coolant/cooling sys. flushed. Upon inspection, coolant was low due to a leak in the water pump so water pump replaced.
Replaced rear brake hoses, pads, calipers, rotors. Flushed/bled brake system.

Prior to this service, all belts were supposedly replaced (although this is not on record), and transmission flushed.

I cannot see where differential oil has been changed, driveshaft lubed, AHC suspension fluid replaced, CV boots maintained.

If I proceed I will likely have it inspected at a Toyota dealer to make sure it is sound and no unexpected large bills await!

Any thoughts?

Timing belt would be the big one, interesting that they did the water pump but no mention of the TB. The price seems inline with what others have been posting for similar year/mileage.

Hey Everyone,
I thought I'd ask for some input as it looks like my '98 may be on the chopping block in the next week and I'm struggling with asking price

My two cents, FWIW, based on your description. somewhere between $7K and $10K Depending on last time serpentine belt was changed, and if starter has been replaced. Also need to see cabin mods you are doing.

If $7-10K is actually what I can get out of it I'll 100% keep it

Without a doubt, the utility value of a 98 or 99 UZJ100 is far greater than its market value. Its why when people ask me "80 or 100 for less than $10K?" my advise is always the 100. I have near $20K into my '99 and plan to keep another 10 years because street "worth" is only $7K.

I have had mine since it was new. 2000 model with 193k. My LC has been "worth" 10-12k for the last 5 years depending on gas prices.

Most long time owners know the value of their rigs far exceed the market value. I just put 2500$ into WP, TB, rotors, new radiator etc, etc. I will next put 2-3k into a repaint. So for $5,500 I will have a rig that will potentially get 100,000 more miles out of. That's time to junk most modern cars. Lol.

I just sold my 2013 taco to buy a 2001 LC. the taco is a tin can compared to the LC. there is no comparison. only thing better on the taco is the gas mileage, and it wasn't that good. I had a 6 speed at got 16 city, and 16 highway. If you need a bed, or drive 30k miles a year, then get the taco. Otherwise, keep the LC and drive it till the apocalypse.

My thoughts as well, thanks. I know I won't get out what I have into it but still, seemed low. Looking at the cost of Tacomas is already depressing enough haha.

So you trying to save some cash, I get that. What I dont understand is what a Tacoma can do that LC cant do, unless you need a truck bed. If you trying to save on gas, I don't think it is worth it to sell LC and buy Tacoma considering how much you have put into the LC. The saving in gas is not that much, unless you drive a ton, and in that case, get a Prius or something similar. If you get a used Tacoma, you need to baseline and catch up on maintenance, repeating what you did to LC. If you buy new Tacoma, that does not sounds like you are trying to save money. Just my 2c.

Why is this thread not a sticky to clean this place up?

It was a 6 speed, and those trucks get worse mileage than autos. I had 265 bfg load range E. Range in city was 240 miles, Range on the highway was 240 miles. Great truck, reliable, and holds its resale, but DAMN, the LC is so much better. You can tell the taco is built as an economy truck, and the LC is a LUX barge.

@Trunkmonkey

This is a helpful thread- but it's often buried. Why not make this permanent sticky with the photo, video, FAQ, new members - it would save countless individual thread posts since noobs don't know to post up here.

Glad to hear you picked up your 2001 LC. I was hoping you would snag that 2006 LX in Winston-Salem.
BTW, the person who purchased that 2006 ... is he on this forum?

he never surfaced...

Just picked up my new-to-me 2006 LC with 126k miles for $16.8K from a fellow member. I feel like I got a great truck that's been taken care of well by someone who knows these vehicles. Color is Pacific Blue Metallic with Beige interior. Non-AHC, but does have NAV. Only modifications done to the truck were a set of older BFG ATs.

I've already learned a ton from this forum and hope to contribute a bit, as well. Pretty amazing to see the skills that some of y'all possess regarding fabrication and design.

That's a great deal on that 06. I'm hopefully picking up an 03 tomorrow if all checks out. Will update post if I do.
