I searched and found some info but no thread specific to aftermarket vendors for the FJ55. Maybe there just aren't any? My buddy is giving me a great deal on a 55 and I am doing some research. I am bored and need a new project.

The 55 is going to be built for the street, light trail duty use. I may throw some sliders and bumpers on there for basic protection but no more than that. It will have 2.5 lift and all terrain tires, with stock rims, hubcaps, red/white color scheme. Open front and rear, stock 4x4 setup.

Anyhow, my question is that I am trying to guage what type of aftermarket there is out there for the 55’s? I know probably every vendor for the 40’s but have only been able to find a few stock Toyota parts and a few aftermarket things at Specter off road. Any other vendors out there? I am mainly concerned with the interior stuff that can’t be redone or needs to be cleaned up. I am learning how to weld quickly and have fairly good mechanical ability so the frame, engine, etc. should not be too much of a problem. Just wondering what others have done for the “soft” parts that one might need for a really nice looking rebuild. Like I said, I want this thing CLEAN. I am going to take as many years as needed to do a really nice job. I am guessing 3-5 years for a complete build. If it is quicker then OK, but I don’t want to cut any corners. I would like to hear from other 55 rebuilders that did a clean rebuild and how they found their parts OR how they may have had them refinished or refinished them themselves.

Thanks,

Noah

Sounds like a plan good luck. Every 55 specific part I have ever gotten has come from other pig owners with stockpiles. Especially that little interior type stuff. My local toyota dealer can get me some stuff sometimes but I dont hold my breath. Specter, TPI, and all the other usuals will have bits and pieces. Ironpigoffroad will have some stuff. There really isnt a lot of it out there though.

Welcome to the gang.... What year pig are you buying? Please post a couple photos.

Well back in the day if you owned a Land Cruiser it was very difficult to find venders that catered to TLC's. And if you owned a Pig you were SOL. With the popularity of Cruisers over the past few years more aftermarket items have come to the table. And the FJ55 wasnt far behind the more popular 40 and 60 series here in North America. Great thing about most hardcore cruiser addicts is we tend to think out of the box. You had to inorder to make something yourself because you were not going to find it on the open market. Now we have a number of places that you can buy parts from and/or aftermarket toys for the FJ55.

Places I think you need to check into.

I still have a real bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Man-A-Fre due to how they screwed me over on my last big order... but I think you should see what they have.

Another is Specter Offroad... I have been treated very well by SOR. I will always buy from them if I cant find the part elsewhere or it comes between them and MAF... I wont get into the politics between MAF and SOR... but here is the SOR site.

http://sor.com/

Then there is Lance Wiliams... Ive know Lance for a decent amount of time. We havent really stayed in contact much over the years but I can still drop him a line and he remembers me.... So here is his site.

There is also JT Outfitters... I havent looked at his website in some time... because was always extremely overprices on many items. On some products he rebadges them... I asked them about this and was told that it was their product... or a good buddies product they are selling... I wont name the item I have in mind right now... but I reconized it as soon as I saw the photo... I called the manufacturer and sure enough it was theirs made for the person JTO knows and they are selling. Sorry for the added BS... just a pet peev of mine when people try to say they originated an idea as their own and the product was out years before they ever went into business.

There is Coolcruisers of Texas.... nice calendars :)

and a bunch of others im not posting...hope this gets you started.

thanks for the reply. I am familiar with all of these guys, seems like though that none of them have stuff for the 55 that is aftermarket, except for SOR, will keep looking but it sounds like I will have to make or refinish stuff out there....

Give us a list of items... and ten to one we have already looked for it... found it... or made it ourselves:cool:

THAT'S A DEAL, SOUNDS GOOD! :)

I guess my post is a bit premature. I will post up when I actually get into the mix of things. Looking forward to it. God, I am a glutton for punishment! :)

At least this rebuild will be happening in an actual garage. I rebuild the 40 on a slab of concrete at my apartment complex, that was interesting.

LoL!
Im rebuilding my LJ20V on a concrete slab next to my house we are renting.

I lifted the body from the frame on my own... that was interesting as well. :D

I think I will buy a few beers and invite people over next time...

Been there too. I had mine gutted and stripped apart sitting in the garage of the house we rent and the landlord s*** a brick. Hid it behind the neighbors house for a couple weeks then snuck it back one night. Redid the whole exterior and put the engine in over xmas break.

What everybody else said...
For bumpers and sliders, call lance at IPOR. Plenty of Pigfolk have his stuff on our rigs...
For window rubber, talk to PVCruisers. Excellent stuff.
For the minor interior/exterior unobtanium stuff. Post up here with your needs, we've probably got it.
I have a small stash of doors (14), tailgates (3), engines (4) and associated bits and pieces. Always willing to help keep another Pig roadworthy...

yup, nothing like a notice from the city of san diego to get your junk running or they will tow it to the junkyard, at your cost!, to get you motivated and get the project done. :)

Just goes to show you... one persons treasure is another persons trash. LoL!

For OEM parts (that are still available), don't forget about Cdan.

I too would like to get a 55 someday:)

A question regarding rust. Can you get new or replacement body panels if an area is rusted out? Or do you have to fab new sheet metal and weld it in place? Also where are the most common places to look for rust?

common places for rust on a 55....everywhere.

-body mounts
-lower porton of front fenders
-rear quarters
-rear sil
-drip rail
-floor
-rockers
-tail gate

Typicly you can get decent peices from people here in CO or AZ. As for factory stamped new peices I dont know of any. There is a thread on here of someone starting to make some but I dont think that they are in production yetl.
