Buying a LC can't decide b/w 80 or 100 series.

Agree with above. 80 mph to wheeling, camping, mountain biking and fishing. 100 is the ticket. And add this. ;)

If that 80 was in the uk it would most probably sell for more than the 100, depending on condition obviously. 80 prices are sky rocketing as they get exported to Africa, plus they are a overlanders dream due to Toyota deciding to make it the most able Landcruiser they could at the time being triple locked, viscous coupler, solid front axle. The 100 was softened down a bit, probably because there is a lot more tarmac in the world these days, even Africa has been transformed road wise. The 105 is just silly money for the same reason the 80 is. Would I buy a 80 for that money, yes. But I don't have that option, it would be spares or repair over here.

I love the 100 for what I need, not sure I would the 80. If I felt I needed a 80 then I would probably end up with a Defender, I know they need a lot of work but I'm British and it is a icon. Lucky I buy with my head though and not my heart.

So, only you know what you will be happy with, as there are compromises on both.

I might of been a bit hasty earlier. If I was thinking of getting a Defender, I would probably end up with a 60.

What? Are you suggesting a 4.7 out of a Tundra makes the 100 "faster"?

Yes, I learned by accident. After blowing a rod with a supercharger my mechanic told me to buy any toyota 4.7 liter motor. So I went on ebay found a 02 tundra low mileage one for $800 inc shipping and bought it. When he installs it he tells me that it was a pain because it was a slightly different motor. I looked up it was an iforce 4.7 liter which has much more torque. Car drove nearly as fast as my supercharged LC, for some reason I preferred power delivery more on the iforce motor. I think its a better upgrade than super charger. I ended up selling sc for $3500 and mechanic charged me $800 for install so it was cheaper than sc.

I have both. love my 80 way more. In fact my 100 is going bye bye And I’ll be getting a taco to replace it.

Hundy has 320 ft lbs stock.

That motor has 25 more hp stock.

Sc is suppose to add 80 or so to both.

My 100 has dt headers and 3 inch exhaust and it makes a big difference.

Hundies can use all the help they can get. :)

Yeah I had the headers/3" exhaust on it for some time before the sc did something weird and bent it. Stock 100 actually needed planning when making lane changes - used to drive me nuts. It maybe only 25hp but it gives immediate torque so now I don't need to plan any high speed lane maneuvers and get immediate torque- Sort of reminds me of an italian sports car. The SC would give alot of power but wasn't as linear or smooth.

Mine now is the quickest 100 I have driven. Not sure why. It has lots of extra weight and is still quicker. Weird.

I went from a 40. I really wanted an 80, but I took a hard look at what I wanted to do with it, and the 100 edged out. It can't do the Rubicon, but that is not what I am into now. Long road trips with not-so-hard rock crawling is perfect.

If the 80 had the V8 and the ability of me able to sleep stretched out in the back, I wouldn't be having this conversation. Plus the 80's in my area are beat and they want close to 100 series money

stock vs stock, the 100 is really that much worse offroad than the 80?
Mod to modded, the 80 has a clear advantage in the rocks. But stock for stock is a good question. Mud consensus is only 8% of 80's came with lockers (92% came unlocked). ALL 2000+ 100's came with ATRAC. So comparing a completely stock, unlocked 80 to a completely stock 100 with ATRAC would be interesting.

Strange how specs change with each market place, all uk spec 80's came triple locked. Strange, as we aren't really a nation that does any hardcore off-roading.

Rock crawling in the uk is driving over some gravel or up a kirb. Solid front axel over here is pointless.
Fishing trips and 95 % tarmac i chose 100.

What are the reasons, and what type of driving. Just curious to know, I like the 80 and have been thinking of getting a diesel 100, but a manual diesel 80 might be a option.

For me the 80 has more of a rugged feel. My 100 is lifted and will betting armored shortly but it still drives more of a family rig for me....then again that's my 2 cents.
