Has anyone built, or even seen, a custom front bumper built around a factory PTO winch?

Thanks.

Bueler? Bueler?

Crickets....

Guest the silence is my answer. PTO sits lower and a bit farther forward than most electrical units and isn't moveable. It's heavy, relies on a weak shear pin, and only works when the engine is running. I can see why no one builds up a rig with one.

Will post my solution when I work it out.

PTO winches were pretty common for the early land rovers but I've not seen many on others. The Land rovers were really simple...believe they just had a plate mounted on the bumper that the winch attached to. The land rove frames have the holes built into the them for the PTO shafts iirc.

might be attached directly to the chassis...cannot remember

Yes i have seen a couple of custom ones in Aust for the pto's, ARB even put out a factory bar in the day which is very rare to come across. I don't have one getting used to the standard look.

Nice. Thank you all.

It looks like the best path is to use the existing structure and add on swept wings. I will probably keep it low and not go for the full cattle guard. 4Plus and Trail Taylor have a nice look without the headlight piping. I might consider cutting up an ARB and scabbing it around the winch cradle. Toyota's structure is all bolted together and has to remain accessible to be able to maintain the winch. It's not going to be an easy design.

Thanks again. Hopefully I can start another build thread soon and offer a solution to the community.

I'm planning to weld up an alternative to the vulnerable stock winch bumper too. Actually I´m thinking quite often about the design when there is the time for it, like just before sleeping. Or sitting with a beer in front of the truck and check possible angles and lines.
But there are always so much more important things to do around the truck or home that this project has been forwarded for quite some time now. There is a tread somewere here which displays very nicely the alternation of an stock ARB bumper to accomodate the pto winch. Most of the other approaches which I have seen are quite bulky and not looking good enough for my likings. I want it as slim and light as possible, probably without barwork.
Have you gone forward with your setup ?

here...
I feeling that I´ll do it this summer - (southern hemisphere)
Just fitted new CS005 springs and they are sitting rather low with that heavy stock winch craddle. Definitely hoping to reduce weight without comprimising strength .... will keep you informed.

Not pretty but may give you some ideas...

I finally got round to do it and cut this front porch a bit shorter, rather pleased with the result for now.
I might alter the height of the side bumpers sometime. Deliberately I bolted them in place to be able to alter them at a later stage.
Just posting some pics from the now. Have made several from the building process and will post them later.
Hope that these give others some ideas - would love to see other similar projects too.

Here are more pics from the manufacturing. I had some sort of design in my head, then started to build things out of cardboard....got steel and luckely the neighbours plasmacutter. More pics in next post...

I have to mention that I fitted a better condition worm gear into the winch. I had annother winch lying around for a while which had less corrosion inside. I only figured out later that that winch must have been from a 70 series as they sport a opposite direction of rotation. I sort of proved handy for the new setup.
Quite pleased with the result .... had it in my mind ... basicly since I got the truck which is 5 years ago.
