Has anyone designed there own front rear bumpers? If someone has done this did you also design the mounting brackets?

I am wanting to design some bumpers, i love designing things, but i have not taken my bumpers off so i do not know how the bumper mounts to the frame.

If someone who has designed their own bumpers, front and rear, could send me a drawing of the mounting brakets(not the whole bumper) via email whether it is on autoCAD or a scanned hand drawn template I would be mucho apreciative.

I just need the brackets im going to design the bumpers from a design in my mind.

A quick questio0n(or two) about the design, How wide of a mounting surface must i allow for if designing for the possibility of a winch in the future?. What is considered to be the minimum thickness acceptable for a front a rear bumper that is winch and will possibly have 2 D-Rings.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'll be the first to say it. "SEARCH" works really well. You'll find more custom bumper/mumper threads than you know what to do with.

Oh and... :flipoff2:

Thanks miletwo. I always forget the search function, truthfully i do and thanks for reminding me.

I designed a front bumper. I had previously removed the OEM bumper brackets that are riveted to the frame, so I used a piece of 4" flat stock that fit outside the front frame rails. I drilled holls in the flat stock to match the rivet holes in the frame rail. There's more info in this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=77311

I have a rear bumper by Luke at 4x4labs.com. It's a similar mounting principle, except each frame rail is sanwiched by an inner piece that connects to the cross member replacement and an outer piece that is the thicker shackle attachment point. There is a pic burried in this post: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=585030&postcount=36

2mbb,

I looked at your bumper yesterday evening and was very impressed, if you hadn't said that you built it i would think it a High-End brand named bumper.

I am going to model mine roughly/closely off of yours, If you have no objections.

At one point you asked about the Front License Plate....If you haven't figured out what to do about it maybe you could fab up a bracket that fits it over the hole for the winch cable and fix it up on hinges that will drop it down out of the way when you need the winch.

Does anyone have pipe style bumpers on their 60s?? Any pictures? Thanks
