That's a nice area. My wife and I drove our '84 FJ60 up there several years before we moved back to New Mexico. It seems like that area's rarely visited. Of course all the solar panels weren't on the valley floor back then.

So far I've been driving the 45 pretty gently, but lately I've slowly been pushing it toward redline on occasion. I did notice that above 3,500 RPM, I was getting some hesitation. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to see what was going on, and sure enough, fuel pressure was falling off drastically above 3,500. Below that, I was steady at about 48psi. Above that, it would drop to about 30psi.

The fuel pump I was using was the one in the 80 when I bought it. I have no idea if it was original or not, so it could have been from 1994 with about 250,000 miles on it. I replaced the pump with an OEM unit and it was a night and day difference. Full power now all the way to redline. It makes me wonder how long that pump had been on its way out, and how short on power its been up till now.

I also put an inline gauge in the engine bay so I can monitor the pressure more closely from now on -

Here's a video of a 2nd gear pull from 20-60 mph. I'd love to do a 0-60 video, but I don't want to launch this thing with 37" tires on factory axles if I don't have to.

I'd hate to see anything bad happen to your project, so I'll let you know several Porsches have burned up due to those underhood fuel pressure gauges failing and spraying fuel everywhere. I'd stick a plug in the gauge port, and just install the gauge when you want to verify pressures.

Awesome project, please don't take this as peeing in your Wheaties.

I appreciate that! The gauge is somewhat useless since you can only see it at idle.

I ordered the Dakota Digital sender and will replace the gauge with that, then I'll have real time reading on the dash.

That gauge is one of the only Chinese parts on the truck, I was a bit nervous putting it on.

Thanks again!

I’m more impressed with how smooth the video was and how the steering wheel wasn’t moving.

That thing is a Cadillac!

I don't think I saw it in your thread, what chassis wiring harness/fusebox did you use?

Thanks!
Sorry for the delay.

I built the harness from scratch. I used 3 Blue Sea fuse blocks. Two are switched 12v, one is constant. Then, a row of relays. I haven't used all of them yet.

@Andrew S , I replaced the cheap fuel gauge with a Dakota Digital solid state sender. I now have live fuel pressure in the dash -

damn....
always wanted to put my old 4.6iforce in my 70series...

My wife and I celebrated our 10 yr anniversary yesterday... she gave me an awesome gift! She's been working on it for a while. It totally shocked me how accurate and nice it was! Just have to find a nice place to hang it now.
