I noticed you said you removed the swaybar. I can see how that would help the flex. Is there an easy way to use quick disconnects for the sway bar? If so, what is involved in doing it that way?

PM landpimp he mentioned that he did this

I have never welded and do not have the resources to learn right now. I was just wondering that if i did go to the lenghts of getting this done if i would have to find someone to weld....

Another thing. If you don't get the hoops are the stock shocks okay to use for a while??

You might try befriending a local cruiserhead with a welder or give him $20 or something. I too was this way but find the community is pretty good FWIW, I am now 'the guy with the welder' which I don't mind too much..

Shackles

Thanks for the response.

I went with the SOR Performance 1 1/2 inch over stock and all new bushings and shims for the front. As I mentioned earlier I also have long AAL's on the way. I am expecting a net 2.5inch lift after settling.

Cheers,

The AAL lifts equally F/R from where you're at now. If you're currently sagging a little in the rear, I would go with a longer shackle in the rear. If you're level now, get matching sets.
I had a longer set (+2") on my truck before the AAL but nixed them. I Think I will add a set of (+1") Tri Shackles for another 1/2" lift later; F/R.

i am afraid i might have to befriend a local heeper since there are not any cruiserheads in my area> The only ones are about 1.5-2 hours drive away(in a LC) and that is a long ways to go to get something welded. My shop teacher back home is a great welder but i don't ever make it home in the LC yet so he is out of the question....

I have only seen ONE LC(not 80 or 100 series) in my area and it was headed out of town and haven't seen it again. it was dark and i didn't even get the color of it.

Installed the man-a-fre long AAL's this weekend + shackles on the front (SOR - rears should be here soon.) The install went rather smoothly and the FJ now sits at 27 inches to the top of the stock front bumber. With shackles and leaf I picked up a full 2.5 inches (after running the truck down a few bumpy roads.) I am very happy with the results.

A couple of tips:
To remove the spring pins on the rear hanger simply tap a srewdriver under the outside plate and repeat all the way around the plate - it will pop right off - dont forget to remove the bolt first.

Make sure that you have tall jackstands - harbor freight has a set of 6 tons for $20 (2 is fine - 4 is great)

Make sure that you have a hi-lift jack AND an extra jack - I found the extra jack helpful when lining up the center pins.

Have a few C clamps handy to assist in the pack rebuild

Buy and install the shims from SOR

Longer U bolts are a good idea

PB Catalyst off and on for a week prior to removal

I will post a couple of pics soon

Thanks akarilo for the motivation!

cheers,

Here are some shots - went ahead and included a few for good measure - before and after (sorry for the hijack but hopefully it will help those on the fence!). I am really happy with the results, it looks and feels like a new truck! Man-a-fre long add-a-leafs and SOR 1 1/2 over stock shackles. I ended up around 2-2.5inches over stock. A total of about 8-10 hrs - if I had to do it again would take under 6 hours. - 33x9.50's

nice!! looking really cool with the new setup. you really see the diference i imagine that feel's like a diferent truck.

a little question: I think my springs are shot but they don't feel that bad so i'm thinking to add a leaf putting in some new shocks and some shackles that i bought like 2 years ago and some bushings. what do you all think about this?
thank's.
Andres.

89'srule, you asked earlier about mounting the 9000's with body up or shaft up. On the 9000's, the only difference is that if you run them shaft up they lose dampening and will therefore ride softer. Flip 'em around and have the body on top, they ride firmer.

I say go for it. My spring packs were in fairly good shape, not frowning, so i got the most out of the aal/shackle setup. You will not go wrong.

BTW: You will need to replace all center pins and get 2 extra sets of center pins before you start - for good measure. Jack up the body, tall jackstands, and remove U bolts first - then shackles.

Cheers,

I don't see why one would need that much dampening capicity in an application such as a 60 when you're not participating in a rally. However, it is cheap and provides mucho bling!!

As for space, there's nothing a hammer can't fix.

Fjman, I would be more concerned with the amount of travel that setup would give you. H2's don't really flex that much in the front. You would be better off using the Ford tower and proper length shock IMO.

Get part #'s and measurements. Then see if they will work. I would only run single myself. No need for dual shocks on a 60 or most anythign for that matter.
2.5 days left. They wont go cheap. Or the odds are they wont. (Still cannot understand why so many people do not know how to use eBay to their advantage.)

true
they probably will go up in price quite a bit. They sure are "blingy" though. I've often wondered about the neccessity of the dual shock setup when I see a big f-series sporting them. They do look cool. He said he would send me some measurements tommorrow. We'll see.

bump for a good thread that everyone should read before suspension shopping.
