BT45 TOY Install

Hi, reviving an old thread but wondering how your Phone calls on your iPhone are working with the BT 45? I have it in my 2006 and it works great for music, but the minute I try to call or have a phone call come in, the “Handsfree” built in Bluetooth picks up. The two seem to be confused and I’m fumbling trying to switch the Bluetooth on my iPhone between the two during a call to get it working. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

I turned off the built-in Bluetooth or otherwise unpaired my phone from the factory head unit to avoid such interference. That being said, I don’t think the BT45-TOY call quality is all that great.

Popped off the overhead console. First was to remove that screw. Then use your trim tool to lightly pop it down from the top. You'll see the clips in the next photo. It needs a decent amount of force.

Factory mic in factory location. I started to loosen the clip but wanted to snap a photo so thats why the metal clip looks a little loose. Normally that thing is snug.

My plan is to place the BT45 Mic where the factory mic was. First, I moved the factory mic to the right side. It looked like that the left and right side mirror each other. I'm sure for Right Hand Drive LC's, the mic goes there. So I put it there just in case I get handsfree to work in the future? I don't know, just felt good to put it over there. I used that clip and install the factory mic on the right.

BT45 Mic in the factory location. I used hockey tape to secure it to the top of the map light. Really high tech. Gorilla tape might be a better option.

Now, the overhead console slits for the mic does have a little screen behind the slits which probably helps dampen the mic a little (?) but I chose to keep the supplied mic foam as well. I really haven't made any meaningful calls yet but my wife said she could hear me just fine it just sounds like I'm talking through a car mic. I'll report back. Since the overhead console is easy to take off, I can always adjust this.

I like the idea of using the factory mic location. My '02 doesn't have Bluetooth, so I used a rubber grommet to install it next to the garage door opener.

Install of USA Spec BT45-TOY (requires CAS-LEX cable adapter [15.99 from Crutchfield].
My vehicle: 2001 LX w Nav, Mark Levinson and 6 CD changer.
Issue: My luck I get a MFC error "check temperature connection" which seems odd given I'm switching out stereo connections.
Solution: The "68 ohm resistor" trick across TX+ and TX- (in my case wires for pin 9 and 10). 68 ohm resistor can be purchased on Amazon in pack for a few dollars.
There are so many different wiring connections for the LX and LC depending on yr, stereo, and w or w/o MFC. Mine looks like the attached. The pink w black stripe and blue in same position on next row are the ones I connected with resistor. With this, everything seems to work fine.

I'll post a few pictures tomorrow for location of device and microphone.

I just removed the BT45 from my 02 LC. I did the nav delete and upgraded the head unit. I’m planning to list it on eBay. If anyone is interested in a working BT45 w/mic and wiring harness PM me.

Just did my installation following these directions. 20 minutes and saved a $250 installation fee. The referenced video was a big help as well.

I have had the USA Spec BT45-TOY installed for about 5 years now. Was driving the other day and accidentally hit the AM input. Didn't think it was an issue until I tried to hit the DISc input twice (like I usually would to get to Bluetooth) and now it only lets me play CD's and isn't recognizing the BT45 input (I guess??). Any idea what could have gone wrong here??

I have an 01’ LX w/ Nav and am going to install my bt45 with cas lex in the next week or so. Which input did you plug the cas lex into in the back of the head unit? Does the cas lex replace the cable the bt45 toy comes with? Lastly, did you buy 1 watt 68 ohm resistors off of amazon or .5 watt?

OK, I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to find the extra cable for my 03 LX470 needed to install the BT45_TOY . It's the cas-lex. they are backordered at crutchfield.

I think there are a handful of threads on this exact topic but this is one of my first upgrades to my LC and I wanted to try doing a post about it. I couldn't seem to get my iPhone 11 with the latest iOS to work with the handsfree interface, so the BT45 was perfect.

I also wanted to give my phone a nice spot to live where I can easily see while driving without getting in the way. I went with the mount from proclip listed below. I'm really impressed with it and it keeps my phone glued to its spot. Yes, it blocks the vent a little but I don't mind because I love the placement.

Project: Install the USA Spec BT45 TOY Bluetooth adapter for music and phone.

Just wanted to say thanks again to Red Beard. Used this thread today. Was able to install the BT45-TOY in about 30 minutes. Really quite straight forward and really happy with the quality.

@Red Beard, thanks for the recommendation on the Pro Clip phone mount. I have a long trip scheduled next month and decided life would be much easier if I wasn't trying to hold my phone in my right hand when needed. Just installed it today, was exactly what I was looking for.
