I just bought a Brush Guard (the damage multiplier type) for my 80. I bought it mostly for looks and heard it makes front end damage worse when it occurs. I figured if I hit a deer going 60 without one, It will do damage. Regardless of wheather or not the brush guard is on. Anyways, How do I mount it? Mine has the tow hook rings underneath in the front and there is nowhere to attach the darn thing. I was going to rig it with some angleiron and bolts and what-not, or is there some mount thing I am supposed to buy? I have a 1995 FJ80 and it came off a 1997 Lexus LX450. Shouldn't they be interchangeable? What should I do? Comments please other than I should have bought the Australian ARB bull bar (too expensive and it doesn't match the 2-tone gray of my rig. Thanks.

You still have time to return it... ;)

Hey man that isn't very helpful. I look at it like a marrage. You have to make it work. I drove 11 hours today there and back to get it.

It is so easy to mount it. First, you need to take the tow hooks and use the same bolts to mount it. That's easy, even a caveman can do it!:D

Get a long pipe or socket wrench so you will have leverage, get the proper size socket (19mm approx) lay under the truck and get to working.

Wear goggles because as you loosen the bolts all sorts of crap will wall onto you, then once both tow hooks are removed, have someone prop the brush guard in place and then reverse everything you did.

it should take you less than 10 min.

good luck!

I knew I would have to remove the tow hooks, but aren't the holes on the bottom of the frame, where they are on the side of the bars on the brush guard? Nothing is ever that easy. If I remove the tow hooks, you are telling me I will see the light?

...they are on the side of the bars on the brush guard...

You're screwed. The brush guard is supposed to mount on the bottom of the frame rails, where the tow hooks are. Return it.

No, but here's something that will help you see the light:

You said earlier: "I figured if I hit a deer going 60 without one, It will do damage. Regardless of wheather or not the brush guard is on."

Ok, that makes sense.

Now, put the ARB in it's place. Then, when you hit a deer going 60, the only damage done will be to the deer....and possibly some blood on your windshield.

Point being: Why spend $400/500 on a pretty ornament that won't do any good when you hit a deer? You can spend $700/800 on a pretty and functional bumper that is built to withstand a full-on kangaroo hit at 100 km/h while sustaining little to no damage

Mind boggling.

And I'm with Spike; you are screwed. The Light is right there in front of you.

First you're going to need the correct vehicle to install it on:

What the heck is a "marrage"? Some sort of disease that makes you pay too much for something that doesn't work? I'm just being a weisenheimer, so no offense. :D

But, why buy something that if used for what you're thinking of, will be broken itself, along with your vehicle. Instead of just denting your vehicle, and getting that repaired, you'll have to repair the brush guard too. If you saved a little more, and took some more time, you could buy the ARB, and some paint to get it to match your all important two-tone.

Get under the vehicle, look at possible mounting options, and which of those will/might make the brush guard fit. You're the only one who knows what configuration the holes on the guard are in. And the only one who can see if those holes will fit the bolts on your frame.

Pics would probably help as we're all assuming the guard should mount to the frame at the tie down/tow hook points.

Maybe some pics of the guard and close up pics of the mounting holes. Is it possible you didn't get all of the necessary piece parts? That would suck after having drive all that way to get it but if was used then maybe the PO just sold what they had left

Unfortunately, you didn't get all the parts. You need the mounting brackets (one for passenger side and one for driver side). Those brackets provide the mounting points for the brush guard.

Hope you got a good price on your brush guard. Not too late to sell it. ;) My 96 LC came with one and I sold it for $300 and put it towards an ARB.

Mine was a manik bar. Here are the mounting instructions. You might be able to contact them and just order the brackets. Good luck!

My 01 Nissan Pathfinder had a factory brush guard, before I got into an accident last week. I was doing 30MPH on the main road, then a plow truck just came out from the side street; I did not brake till the last seconds. His plow hit my right hand corner, and my brush guard got put right into the front end, that caused more than $5000 in damage.

I bought the brush guard for 2 reasons; it looks good as you said; & good for city parking. If you get into an accident in the future, you wish the brush guard weren't there.

11 hours? $3 a gallon, 65 mph, 14 mpg= $150 extra to pick it up, i hope it was FREE, but good luck mounting it

Yes, I have done brighter things in my life. I have bid on an arb. Happy. Anyone want my Manik brush guard with tail light cover (Manik also) and PIAA lights? I will give you a good deal. $400. Any takers. When I begin to advertise, it will go quick. This is your chance.

Sell it to a soccer mom.
