How are you strengthening the pillars? Any concerns with the strength of the C/D pillars since you hacked them up?

D pillar is still intact as original. Only part I have cut is down near the bottom of the tailgate. No loss in structural integrity, purely cosmetic metal. C-pillar has lost very little if any, as well. The boxed (structural) portion normally just ties in to the top of the wheel well. Once I am done it will still tie in to the top of the (modified) wheel well. In fact, I am designing my wells to mount spare parts and tools to/on. So it SHOULD be stronger than the OEM set-up when its all said and done.

No clients this morning, so I decided to start building the framework for the new flat-top wheel wells. Like I mentioned. I plan on building tool/spare parts boxes into the top of them. They are about 3" deeper than stock, much longer, and at least 6" taller.

Sweet!

Might work for tiny people. But normal size people would be hitting their head. 2 rows of seats is plenty. I dont like more than 4 people and 2 dogs in my rig when I am wheeling. Keeps things balanced.:D

Got a wave of energy after my 2lb steak dinner and I finished up one of my new seat brackets. For anyone looking to make these, they are pretty darn simple. I just heated the flat stock with a butane torch and bent it in over a piece of square tube clamped to a wooden bench. A bit redneck, but it worked. I used 1/2" round tube to tie it together. The tube was in the garage when I moved in. Glad I finally found a use for it. Ignore the glue on the bottom. I took some of the metal from another project and it had gorilla glue all over it. Ill sand it off later.

You could fab 'em up and sell 'em off for like $200 a pop.

(Actually if you had a conversion kit for some popular seats, you could likely make some $$$ doing so at a reasonable price....)

I finished up the framework for the wheel wells today, and started skinning them.

I ran out of sheet metal and the metal store is closed today. So I finished welding up the second seat bracket, and then I started on my roof rack project. Still getting dark pretty early, so I didnt get much done:

BFT-

I've read your thread like 4 times now....I like the minimalistic approach with keeping the functionality of it with adding the rear back on- gonna be a great mix of all that you're looking for.

I'm contemplating the tire and wheel combo that you have for my 80 as well. Do you know the backspacing of the rims? Who makes 'em? What size are they? Also, since most of your early photos aren't showing up on mud...what are the tire details - they look to be a good tire to go with for all 'round wheelin / driving.

Feel free to PM if you get a moment while you're not welding, cutting or otherwise staring and dreaming up things to do to your rig!

Thanks man! Yeah, I really am digging the bob. I thinks it the best mod I have done so far.

As far as the wheel/tire combo goes. It is a nice combo for wheeling/DD. The Procomps ride very smooth on the road for such a big, heavy tire. Super tough 5 ply sidewall as well. Which is probably why they weight 94 lbs each. They are on the heavy end for a 37. Incase you didnt know, there are NOT cheap tires. I think they retail for about 500 bucks a PIECE. Obviously I didn't pay that, and I dont know if I would pay that for them new. I think for the cost there are better tires out there. It really depends on how aggressive a tire you want without giving up road manners. These are a nice balance for that. The wheels are an older style Weld wheel that I dont believe they make anymore. But you can get quite a few wheels nowadays with the same specs. 17x9 with 3.5" backspacing. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Jusrt got back in town to a big brown box on my doorstep.
These suckers are LOOOOONG. About 5 inches taller than the 4" coils. Havent checked the specs on the spring rate, but they MUST be softer with all those extra coils given that they are only 2" more lift.

IROMAN 4" Front vs. 6" Front.

And there yellow.

Good man.

Wow! Just went through this thread at fjc8871's recommendation. Absolutely amazing, well done!
