Did the hinge mod and put the doors back on today in preparation for the weather. While I was wiping down the interior I finally decided to get rid of the faux wood that I despise.

Much better.

weird they allready have the labels for everything below the "wood". I love this rig!! keep up the good work!!

Removing the faux-wood dash crap was the first thing I did when I've bought my 80s.

Even on the drive home after picking it up I was picking at it and breaking it off :)

Sure is a lot cleaner look.

With all of the weight dropped out of the back of the rig, does it get bouncy while driving 'round town?

Whenever I see this post I get the itch to get a sawzall and go to town.

Looking nice!

Do you have any regrets around chopping it up? I keep coming back and wondering if I should do it to mine.

Rear end isnt bouncy at all. Only time I regret chopping it is when its rains. But once the cage is in I will be getting a soft top made to cover the rear, and that wont be an issue.

i regret not knowing how to weld sheetmetal... thats about it...

Previous owner installed an aftermarket deck but left the factory amp behind. 86'ed it along with the dash speakers that sounded like butt. System sounds better now, with less clutter behind the dash. Eventually going to put 4 quality door speakers in, and call it good. Simplicity is bliss.

Your truck is my goal for mine. I'm loving the uber simple. Have you thought about putting the speakers somewhere else so you can have music without the doors?

Yes i have. Looking into options. Kick panel mounts would be perfect, but no one seems to make them for 80's. Once the cage is in I may figure out a mounting system on that.

Your missing something important.

Ha ha ha

Tell us what you think of the DBA's.

I've had mine probably for about 2 years now. They're a great upgrade. Definite improvement on the OEM in braking feel and they seem to be lasting nicely with no scoring. The slots don't seem to stay full of mud, they seem to self clean.
I give em a double thumbs up:flipoff2:

I didnt like how the new tub was turning out. It wasnt fitting right using the stock toyota supports. Plus the bob is cracking its welds because I was in a rush to get it done, and I didnt take the time to prep the metal properly. So I decided that I am going to re-do the whole rear end bob and the tub. I am pretty set on doing a dove-tail at the same time while I have it all apart. Today I cut out EVERYTHING so I could start from scratch. New weekend hopefully Ill be able to get started on the new bob/dove. Then I can start re-building the tub. Here is a picture so this post isnt completely boring:

Holy Crap! that's clean! tell me you've cleaned that underside! I'm used to seeing mud and road grime everywhere. Especially in the top of the spring perches, but yours look as if it's spanking new!
Can't wait to see the outcome btw!

It was CAKED with grease and grime the first time I took it apart. I scrubbed everything the first time and laid a coat of paint on it. When I opened it up again this time it was MUCH better, although I did hose it off before the photo. I think after I get the body panels where I want them. I am going to por-15 everything before I start putting the sheet metal in. The semi gloss finish of the spray paint really helped to keep the grime away. POR dries like glass so it should be even better.
