It was a beautiful day last Saturday when I finally had the chance to bring home my new LC. Picked it up in Newport, RI at the prior owner's Summer Cottage :) Can't seem to embed pics?

It's a 2003 with 88K miles with full dealer service history and best of all lived most of it's life in CA so only surface rust on the underside! However, it was neglected the last couple of years as the owners didn't use it much. Got it home, gave it a quick clean, and took the whole family to York beach in Maine for Mother's Day!

It ran beautifully and was much smoother and quieter than I expected. The build quality is just awesome which is what drew me to wanting one of these for a long time. I averaged 18 mpg on worn out Bridgestone Dueler's! New windshield going in today, and thanks to all of your input, I had new Michelin LTX AT2's installed on Monday!

Awesome tire! Fairly quiet, looks like it will be great in the snow, and hopefully last a long time as reviewers here and on tire rack attested to. Of course, I have a laundry list of fixes I could use some help with:

1. I need to tackle the timing belt and 90k service - where would you recommend buying oem parts?
2. The power antenna only comes up about 4 inches - radio reception is still surprisingly good.
3. OEM DVD player is mounted in rear cargo area, but doesn't seem to work at all - is this a relay issue or are these known to just go bad?
4. Passenger side sun visor ripped right off and it's wired for the light so not sure how difficult this fix is?
5. What's the next best alternative to Krown to keep undercarriage rust at bay?

Thanks in advance!

-Robert

3. Ditch the DVD player. The quality is poor and it will likely be a continuing source of frustration even if you fix it.
4. Should not be difficult to fix, but that might be worth a trip to a dealer and expect to pay for the entire replacement part.
5. My gut tells me that everything is a distant second to Krown. But a search of this site will yield two products, POR15 and NoRust. I live in Texas, which means my needs here are far less than yours. I bought NoRust, propped up my rig and capped off any parts that had started to show evidence of corrosion. Was only ought $60 and my time. Money well spent.

I would encourage you to replace the power antenna with a fixed mast. I replaced mine with the part linked above and I regret it. Small motors aren't exactly reliable, I wish in retrospect I had found a good fixed mast antenna, as I know the motor/and or is will most certainly die again.

As you've learned in the euphoria of your successful acquisition, these vehicles are the definition of durable. Pretty much everything you've mentioned is a minor fix.

Congrats! Now the fun starts...

Nice summer cottage those folks have!!! what did you end up paying for it if you dont mind me asking? 88k miles and no rust is fantastic! you'll have many years of service ahead of you!

Thanks Schwein! Yea, their summer "cottage" was incredible right on the ocean. Really nice folks. Paid $18K. I'm really excited to finally own a Hundy and look forward to many years of service!

Thanks El cid - very helpful response! I'll look into the fixed mast - I've heard the antenna motors continue to break. Kids really want the DVD player to work even though the screen is smaller than their ipads lol.

^ Thanks Guys. I'm not too concerned about the radio or DVD player - I'll sort it out eventually. Another issue I have that I forgot to mention is an airbag light on. Will this throw a code that will point me to the fault? I'm thinking it's a seatbelt receptacle, but don't want to replace parts for no reason.

BTW, how do I get my pics to load right here from photobucket? The "insert pic" button doesn't seem to work for me?

You're using the URL of the page that the pic is on, and not the URL of the pic itself.

Bring up the pic, right click on it, select "Copy Image Location" and paste that into the Image tag.

Nice ride btw. :D

Congratulations!!

This probably isn't the issue for you, but when I first bought ours, I thought or antenna was broken until I found the antenna up/down control on the center console.

Thanks Jack for posting the pic! Lynchburg, I haven't tried the antenna button on the center console - just figured it should go up when I turn the radio on - thanks, I'll try it.

Figured out the pics - thanks Jack. I'll report back on the antenna button lol. Anyone have an idea about the airbag light on?

At York beach.

New LTX AT2's.

Congrats. Very nice and I quite like it in black. For whatever reason, I have come across very few black LC/LX's.
Very nice price as well. I paid $12,500 for my LX last year and felt I did pretty well considering it had 70,000 miles, but would have absolutely paid $18k for an 03.

Airbag light on means it has a fault and disabled itself for some reason, you might want to check that out 'cause your SRS system will not deploy if needed. There are procedures posted on here to jump terminals on the DLC and count the flashes to determine the fault codes and some code readers (Innova 3150b for example) will read ABS and SRS codes. Used mine to isolate a faulty SRS module that wouldn't reset (code 31 I think with SRS light constantly on). Not an inexpensive fix, but what value to you place on knowing your SRS will function as designed? Good luck and I like the look of the LC/LX in black.

Nice deal! I paid 17 for my '03 with 125k and felt pretty good about it! At least here in the PNW prices are very high. Maybe not so much in the east.

For clarification: The manual antenna up/down buttons allow the driver to put the antenna down without turning the radio off...if you'd like to listen to the radio while going through a car wash, for instance.

Once the mast has been manually lowered using the antenna down button, it will automatically position itself at the low (4 inch) setting every time the radio is powered on and fully retract every time the radio is turned off.

Power your radio on, and hit the antenna up button. Your antenna should fully extend. Now, when you power the radio on and off, the antenna will fully extend/retract as designed.

Look up Beno...or Cruiserdan...for your OE parts they support this site and can get your better prices than online plus you get the correct parts. Both great guys. That is there user names on here.

Thanks - I've heard of those guys while reading threads on here over the years. Is PM the best way to reach them or is their a website to go to?

It's interesting - my first choice was Thundercloud as it really hides the dirt well and I like silver, but I couldn't find the right one without traveling and shipping, which I decided against a while ago. I decided to buy the best Hundy I could find in my price range and it turned out to be this one! I actually really love the Black and Ivory color combo - it's really sharp.

I'm fine with the price I paid - I think it was fair for both parties. Original owner, service history, and minimal rust were my top 3 criteria and I saw a lot of Hundy's at much higher prices with rust in the tailgate and other areas. My wife and I test drove an '05 last year with only 65K miles for $28K and the latches in the tailgate were rusted out. The dealer couldn't believe it when I pointed this out to them. Every one I looked at had this problem so I figured eventually I'd just have to live with it, but I was delighted to find mine had no rust there (thank you California!).
