Airbag light on means it has a fault and disabled itself for some reason, you might want to check that out 'cause your SRS system will not deploy if needed. There are procedures posted on here to jump terminals on the DLC and count the flashes to determine the fault codes and some code readers (Innova 3150b for example) will read ABS and SRS codes. Used mine to isolate a faulty SRS module that wouldn't reset (code 31 I think with SRS light constantly on). Not an inexpensive fix, but what value to you place on knowing your SRS will function as designed? Good luck and I like the look of the LC/LX in black.

Thanks Paddo. Yea, I want the SRS to work properly and may just take it into the dealer tomorrow. I was hoping I could read the code from Autozone and DIY.

For clarification: The manual antenna up/down buttons allow the driver to put the antenna down without turning the radio off...if you'd like to listen to the radio while going through a car wash, for instance.

Once the mast has been manually lowered using the antenna down button, it will automatically position itself at the low (4 inch) setting every time the radio is powered on and fully retract every time the radio is turned off.

Power your radio on, and hit the antenna up button. Your antenna should fully extend. Now, when you power the radio on and off, the antenna will fully extend/retract as designed.

Thanks for the clarification Garth! I just tried it and the antenna works perfectly! Thanks to all of you that pointed this out! This forum is great - another reason I wanted a 100!

My suggestions are just to read a lot and look at photos of various land cruisers on the internet.
Heady task, I'm sure, but the modifications you'll want to do will come to you and you'll have this site as an excellent resource on how to proceed. The greatness of this site is the members and their respect that mods can be a personal choice based on preference and budget and I've found everyone to be helpful and respectful.

I went the control freak route and started a spreadsheet with planned mods and then did research here and shopped. I don't try to nickle and dime vendors nor go cheap necessarily, but I did that so that my purchase decisions were made with a plan in mind.

Thanks - I've heard of those guys while reading threads on here over the years. Is PM the best way to reach them or is their a website to go to?

It's interesting - my first choice was Thundercloud as it really hides the dirt well and I like silver, but I couldn't find the right one without traveling and shipping, which I decided against a while ago. I decided to buy the best Hundy I could find in my price range and it turned out to be this one! I actually really love the Black and Ivory color combo - it's really sharp.

I'm fine with the price I paid - I think it was fair for both parties. Original owner, service history, and minimal rust were my top 3 criteria and I saw a lot of Hundy's at much higher prices with rust in the tailgate and other areas. My wife and I test drove an '05 last year with only 65K miles for $28K and the latches in the tailgate were rusted out. The dealer couldn't believe it when I pointed this out to them. Every one I looked at had this problem so I figured eventually I'd just have to live with it, but I was delighted to find mine had no rust there (thank you California!).
Just out of curiosity, was the '05 you test drove a white LX470 with gold emblems? Reason I ask is because my parents traded in their white 2005 LX with gold emblems and around 65k miles with a severely rusted tailgate. Shards of rust would fall out every time you hit the tailgate with your hand or let it fall open! They traded it into Lexus of Watertown but I saw it wind up at another used car lot in MA a couple weeks later. How funny would it be if it were the same car lol.

No, it was an '05 LC in Sonora Gold Pearl (my least fav color) at Sunnyside Acura in NH. Rest of the truck was beautiful on the top side, but another story underneath. How did your parents LX end up like that?

They bought it used back in 2007 or 2008 from Flagship Motorcars (Benz dealer) in Lynnfield, MA. Must have been a trade in. Over the next 5 years, they put on probably less than 20k miles as they don't drive much and when they did, they usually took their '98 ES300 out. The rust INSIDE the tailgate was always there, but it grew progressively worse through the years despite the minimal driving they did. Minus the tailgate rust, it was a nice and clean example of a low mileage, well maintained LX. They decided to get rid of it because they were both uncomfortable driving such a large vehicle (both parents are 5'3"!!) and the fact that it got such poor mileage (compared to the ES300). It also didn't fit in the garage :) It's no wonder they wound up trading it in for a brand new 2013 ES300 Hybrid lol. They went from 14MPG to 40MPG overnight! Not a bad jump but despite being a nice car, the hybrid is boring to drive. I know the market for used, low mileage LC/LX's is pretty strong but encouraged them to trade it in due to the generous amount the dealership was willing to offer for it. They never even looked at the car before offering $28k for it. Now some shmuck around New England is driving around in a white, gold emblemed, low mileage LX with a tailgate that poops rust whenever its opened;)

Too funny. Never got the whole gold emblemed thing - so happy to find my LC with silver black emblems and no fake wood on the inside! Where do you take your LC off road around here?

Haha I don't. Or at least I haven't. I probably don't fit the mold of the typical Mudder here. For a time, I was running 22" wheels while sporting a TJM bumper. I imagine that's a rare species. I wouldn't mind taking a light trail once in awhile, but I just don't know where they are. Let me know if you come across any!

There's a local LC/LX/FJ group called Yankee Toys that organizes offroading trips and the like every so often. I met a couple of them but never went offroading with them. You can find a link to the group under the Clubhouses tab above.

Not a lot in MA. Some beach driving out on the cape. But you guys are plenty close to some awesome stuff in NH and VT.

I don't think thats necessarily true. Something connected to an airbag could have been disconnected before the battery was disconnected, and that can trigger an SRS light. You may have no fault in the system, you just need to have the light reset. That can sometimes be done by leaving the battery disconnected for an extended length of time, or maybe Autozone/Advance/etc that can reset it.

Thanks - I've heard of Yankee Toys and visited their site over the years - doesn't seem to be very active, but then again, I'm not into rock crawling so not sure it would be a good fit.

Yup, plan to hit the beaches on the Cape and Nantucket this summer. Are there light trails up in the White Mtns of NH?

Had a local shop read the codes - it's B1153: seat position sensor fault. Looks like the airbag system determines how much charge to use based on how close the person is sitting to the airbag. I'm going to pull the seats apart this weekend to do some troubleshooting. He reset the code, but it didn't clear so have to dig a little deeper.

You learn lots about your cruiser.

Incidentally, does anyone know why the rear trim is asymmetrical? One handle horizontal and one vertical?

I noticed that on my lc and swore it was symmetrical on the lx but I was wrong.

It turned out to be a broken wire at the connector to the seat position sensor. Since this created a hard fault, the system would not reset on its own. I created a new thread with a DIY.
