After talking with builders, wheelers, and LC owners my best guess if that my star inside the birfield (now broken) was previously fractured and that is what caused it to come apart under the light conditions that it did.
I purchased a new OEM birfield and below is the comparison of the unbroken used side and new OEM. The used side has 108k miles on it and has had regular service. The 80 is heavy, SC, 37’s, 4.88, and wheeled (40k on this set-up). I’m looking at the wear as acceptable and plan on reinstalling it. Would you?

of course wheel it, what's the worst that could happen? worst case is another fix on the trail, could happen anyway. when you're setup like that you should always be prepared anyway.

if you don't wheel it, send it up here :D

Hmmm,

Where did the new one come from?

Just based on price I would reinstall and wheel until failure............never know how long it might last probably a good while...... :flipoff2:

I have used far worse for a long time until I could not stand the clicking. Put it back together and use it. Find a spare one in similar condition and carry it for a spare. later robbie

hey phil, i'm still in need of at least 1 abs ring, so if you do toss it, please let me know. thanks.
