Hey,
What front shocks do you recommend for 2.5 lift, indexed front torsion bars, no added weight? Want comfortableish ride while spirited desert and rocky mountain trail off-roading but am on a tight budget.

I had previously replaced OME with OEM for better comfort and less $ and they’ve suited me fine for the last 5+ years, BUT I just broke my passenger side shock in half on my last trip over the mountain from Joshua Tree to Big Bear CA.

I’m trying to keep costs down…

Thanks,
Ted

If OEM were working fine, just swap in new toyota shocks and keep on rolling. Can't beat the cost and comfort, IMO.

If it was stock or 1” lift, OEM is still the best both practicality and comfort. Since your setup is 2.5” lift all around I’d recommend Koni Raid.

But don’t take my word for it or Dakar Rally (most extreme race on earth) participants/finishers and read more context online.

Thank you, I agree the OEM are great quality and value and I wouldn’t hesitate to replace if I had just wore them out but having broke one in half makes me think I’m asking too much considering the 2.5 lift. Having said that they have held up well for 5+ years of some fairly heavy off-roading so… 🤔

I’ve run OME and Bilsteins in the past and thought both were a bit too harsh.
I’ll look into the Konis and am also curious about the Dobinsons. I’d like to keep it under $350.

I still can't believe how well OEM rides on-road. Smooth Ride even with E K03's

I would recommend OEM, but if you wanted to look at the Eibachs they would be really close to your budget and give a little more length. I would still say not necessary. The torsion bar and control arm setup really limits any increase in down travel with a lift. While you may be sitting 2.5" higher your total suspension travel up front is not that different than stock.

Any ideas what would cause it to break like that?
