Just living the dream on a sunny Friday when a mini van blew a stop sign...

Thank goodness for an ARB bumper! The bumper is toast along with the high-lift, but will have to wait until the body/frame shop guys do the final check.

No one was injured and the driver seems to be doing the right thing since he admitted that it was his fault to the Police Officers, so now it's just a matter of working it out with the insurance companies.

Any suggestions?

Wow, that isn't much damage to the ARB. It will be a lot cheaper to fix than the mini van. I can't imagine it tweaked your frame. How's your neck? See if it's stiff tomorrow. I got rear ended by a minivan once and could hardly turn my head the next day.

If that's toasted for a bumper, I'd love to see scratched. No, serious, how'd the rig come out??

2 questions. Did you jerk him out by the hair on his head and cuff him? and Did you cry? lol

That does suck but it dont look too bad. hopefully since you hit it square it didn't do too anything to the frame. It looks like you were down in the bottoms of KC

Sorry to hear about the accident...
Glad everyone is ok...
I dont see damage to the ARB, but I looks like it got pushed right into the truck ?

Maybe bolts sheered off ?

That sucks. But at least you hit the van in it's soft spot. Hopefully the frame is still perfect and you just got a little tweak on the ARB.

...Any suggestions?

Yeah,
Don't buy a mini van!

I see the damage on the ARB. Looks like it could probably be repaired, but the insurance company should replace it for you.
It definately did it's job!
How is the Hi-Lift damaged?

I'm happy there were no passengers in that minivan, especially a kid:frown:
People need to remove thier heads from thier arses when they drive!

It's good to see you're ok, but seriously, wait a few days before you say for sure.
A good dead on impact like that can seriously cause some hidden injury. How fast were you going when you hit them?

If you want a serious suggestion from someone that deals with this daily, don't sign off on chit until you're sure everything (physically) is ok, and your truck is repaired to your liking.
You have plenty of photos (here if not other places) to show the condition pre-crash.

All the best

damage looks minimal to the Bumper but i would get it replaced then fix your old one, you have one of the nicest 60 series i have seen, get it fixed right !!! I bet the mini driver was on a cell phone or texting,

Better yet, have your shop quote the price of a new ARB to the Insurance company, then have a buddy weld up the old bumper for the cost of a few :beer:s, pocket the difference.

You should have gotten out of your truck and gone "Well dammit, now i'm going to have to buy an ENTIRE can of spray paint to fix this...."

Toast? You're a funny guy. Send that "toasted" bumper my way.

Glad you and the rig are OK, you're both some of the finer examples here on MUD.

I had a lady back into my ARB on my '84, destroyed her Dodge Stratus (trunklid was pushed up about a foot), I got out all mad as hell then looked at my truck, laughed and drove away.

just wondering how fast you were going?

I do see some damage on the driver's side of the bumper. I'd get his/her insurance to buy you a new one and you can sell that other one to one of us! :meh:

Great looking 60, I hope some day mine looks something similiar to that. Hope to see it on the streets in KC.

Good to hear that nobody was hurt.

Hi Guys -

Thanks for all the support and feedback.

Well, the process of getting myself and the 60 repaired has begun. I can't really get into details for a number of potential reasons, but I'm going to document this process so that other "vintage LC" car owners may learn from this experience.

It appears that the insurance company has begun the "business" side of the settlement process. They've already started using the "it maybe totaled" language in the very first conversation without even seeing the 60 yet.

In order to forecast what I may experience and help future LC owners, I'd love to hear from anyone that has had to go through this process after being involved in an accident and the any suggestions on how to reach a reasonable settlement to get my 60 back to pre-accident condition. Any pros/cons of the process would also be helpful.

Thanks!

If they try and write it off as totaled, get the papers drawn up for a lien sale or salvaged title before the deal's closed, that's too nice a 60 to let the file-jockeys throw away!

Sorry BritKLR,
I got no experiece to offer up advice for this one. Your rig still looks damned near perfect in the pics. Yours has been my favorite Mud 60 since you first posted pics of the two-tone paint long ago. I hope the damage is as minimal as it looks.
