Hi,
I’m really struggling to drive my ‘71 FJ40 due to the height of the brake pedal (I’m 6ft 7inch 😳)
Is there a way of lowering it? I have to do the river dance whenever I go from accelerator to brake.
The drivers seat is mounted extra far back so I can get in 😂
Cheers.

John

I think its got some adjustment, before you have to get the torch.
My PO was 6'6" +350. He set the clutch pedal down 2" after he put on the hard top. As a rag top he could bow out the door enough to work the clutch - no so with hard top door. I'm only 6'2 200 so I just left the clutch set where it was.

There is a spec in the FSM for the pedal height of the brake and clutch pedals. I'm not sure there's too much you can do about it. I'm 6'8" and have been driving a 40 since the mid 80's. I've adjusted/rotated and moved my seat back seat for more leg room. I found raising the front of the seat is helpful and maybe lowering the back slightly. I know the clutch pedal height is critical to get the full stroke of the masters piston to disengage the clutch. The brake can probably can be lowered slightly because it will naturally stop within its stroke. If you alter the stroke you may have problems with bleeding the brakes. You might be able to change it's pivot point in some way or make a spacer to go between the brake booster and firewall, which may be problematic because all the pedals are mounted in one bracket.

I am not a tall but most of my height is in my legs for 6'-3". I had more problems with the firewall and gas pedal. Long highway drives were taxing between that and the poor steering design of the 40 series.
I am going to install cruise control so my foot doesn't have to control the throttle position.
Now that PS is installed I have a smaller steering wheel from a FJ60 or FJ70 that is smaller then the original wheel. As long as I have head room and don't remember head room being a problem.
Now that the new fuel tank is in place and have to modify the center seat support I will move the seats back as far as possible.

@POPO AGIE has a good point. You might be able to adapt the later model smaller steering wheel or one from another model. I know at some point they did change the spline count for a couple of years.

Mine is a 78 and I did a test fit with the new wheel and dropped right on.
I looked at a lot of after market and Land Cruiser wheels and liked this one. Only has a horn so the wiring was nothing to worry about and no cruise control that my kit has a the buttons that will mount where seems the best.

This is *almost* exactly what you are asking for :)
EDIT - I just saw your location is UK. Is your vehicle RHD? I'm not sure how different the RHD 40 pedals are.

I manufacture a lower brake pedal for those with automatic transmissions. (brakes are used way more, and transition from gas to brakes needs to be much more ergonomic then with a manual transmission).

It should work well for you as long as it doesn't interfere with the clutch pedal since it is a bit more to the left, I can install on in one of my stock 40's and see how close it gets and take some measurements. Or potentially modify the deisgn for you a bit.

Hi Matt,

This looks to be the perfect solution!!
Will PM you. Cheers.

Please see my note about RHD. If you can post a few good pictures of your pedals (showing the entire pedal/mounting) that would be helpful.
