While changing the front rotors today, and the brake pads, I noticed that there was no anti squeal shims in between the pad and the piston, I would assume there should be, can anyone let me know if their 1996 FZJ80 has them.

They do orignally but it is not absolutely required. In fact when going to 100 series pads, the shims have to be left out in order for the pads to fit.

Thanks for the reply mr Dan..... I wanted to fit 100 series pads, but it got sooooo complicated at the Toyota dealer, as they can only order anything if you give then a chassis number, so I ended up with the standard 80 series pads, but I am glad to hear that the pads can run ok without the shims, was just a bit concerned as to why one side had very bad uneven pad wear, over it's length and not the width, I will keep an eye on the wear now I have fitted new pads and rotors (not Toyota rotors) but were cheap at £21 for both sides, I will now get my discs turned and refit them, someday when the after market ones play up.

What is the part number on the pads supplied by your agency?

Sounds like you may have a piston frozen on your caliper. If you have compressed air to get the pistons out it's not that bad of a job. I just did this this past weekend (Dan thanks for the rebuild kit). and only took a few hours.

To answer two question, I will have to have a look athe box the pads come in, which is in the boot of the car, and as it is 23.00 and cold outside I will look for that 2morrow, as for the piston stuck, they move really easily, as you push one piston back the others move out slightly, so I think none are seized in the caliper. perhaps the pad worn enevenly cos of the disc was warped.

They willl probably be 04465-60020 or 04465-60110. If so we can fool the agency for you without having a vin (provided they will supply a part to you based on you giving them a number). Ask for either 04465-60151 or 04465-60220. That will get you 100 series pads...:D

None when I changed the pads on my 94 either. What the hell happens to them?....Last guy to change the pads just says, "huh, bet these aren't necessary." Grease monkeys.

Well after rotor change, I have noticed no braking vibration, but there still is a very slight pedal up and down on the last bit of light braking, perhaps it's the back discs?
