The brake lights in my 88 fj62 wont turn on. This is no good because i cant really drive it like that. I know its not the switch because a broken switch would cause the brake lghts to stay on, not off. I think it may have something to due with the electrical fuse box system. I replaced the 15a fuse, but still broken. All the other lights work. Hopefully you guys can give me some trouble shooting tips. Thanks!

It could still be a bad brake switch or it could be bad bulbs.

X2....start with the basics, use a test light and see if you have voltage to the switch. next bypass the switch, check voltage at the taillight socket.

I am having the same issue. My tail lights work but no breaks. I just replaced the break switch in August and the bulbs. Fuse is good as well.

Replaced the bulbs, no luck. Replacing the brake light switch this afternoon. Is there a way i can reset the fuse box on the fj62? Perhaps that might be it?

The brake light circuit is pretty simple. From the 15 amp STOP fuse to the switch at the pedal is a Green/Blue wire that goes to pin 1 of the switch. If the fuse is good, you should always have 12 volts at pin 1. The Green/White from pin 2 goes to the brake lights. The White/Black wires from the brake lights go to ground. If both brake lights are out, you either have a bad fuse, a bad switch, a bad ground or a broken wire. You will have to trace it out using a voltmeter or a test light to find out where the problem is.

Wingit I have the exact same problem my tail lights work but no break lights. Did you figure out what the problem was?

Don't know if it helps, but when I brought my 60 I had the same problems. It turns out whoever installed the wiring for the trailer, installed it wrong. Or I guess it's more likely that the wiring harness was wrong. The connectors that plugged into the tail lights had the pin for the brake light in the wrong position, so there was no complete circuit.

I’ve owned my fj62 for over two years never hooked up a trailer and all of a sudden they brake lights stop working and I’ve checked fuses and there good

I had the same issue brake light was always on so i adjusted the switch than the break light won’t come on so instead off buying a new switch i open my break switch up sprayed some electrical cleaner connected back in and it worked perfectly
