When starting the 72FJ40, if im pressing the brake it will shoot fluid through the top of the master. What would cause this, Booster or master? Im trying to fix a few minor problems from the p/o.

Thanks

Wow, never heard of that one before. When it starts, your foot on the pedal goes to the floor more, correct? I'm thinking the booster would cause this, as it increases the pressure applied to the master cylinder. The M/C just sends fluid through the lines when the piston is pushed; how fast and how hard is up to the booster and your foot. I have no idea what the problem is caused by, but it's definitely the booster. Can you get a video of it!? :D

Having just spent several days playing with my MC and brakes, I think this is the master. The only way for fluid to "reflux" into the reservoir is to have an internal seal leak so that some of the fluid you're trying to push through the brake lines is coming past the seal and into the reservoir.

Is your MC the original? Mine failed over several months - first sign was needing to double pump as an internal leak developed. Finally failed by leaking into the booster.

The master is the original.

The p/o told me what happened when he pressed the brake and tried to start it. He also showed me the brake fluid all over the hood.

I havent tried to make it happen yet, I will try to get some footage with the help of my beautiful wife...

After I try it I will post up the results. Its about 17 degrees outside so I might take a day or three to do it..
