I have a 3" lift with 33" BFG's and have noticed that braking takes a little longer. I have not had any situations yet where I've had to slam on the brakes, but wonder if it would be worth purchasing some more powerful calipers from TLC in van Nuys. Any suggestions?

the other option is to go with 4runner calipers.

direct bolt on upgrade.

lots of threads on it.

Check your current system out before buying something else. 33" tires are not enough to make stoping that much more difficult.

Thanks! I've had my cruiser for 2 1/2 years now and i am still learning. flybynight, why are the 4runner calipers any better?

the 4 runner calipers are 4 larger pistons. I have them on my 60 with 37" tires and they are a big improvement. it is a good upgrade. you also should upgrade the master cyl when doing this. I used one from a t-100, it has a larger bore. but with 33's it should not be a problem.

The master cyl upgrade is not a must, but it may make a difference. Vette is running 37's so it may be more noticeable for him.

Some have not liked the feel of the larger master cyl. I have been happy with my stock cyl.

Either way the calipers are (IMHO) a must upgrade. Very affordable and no mods (other than the one inch trim of brake shield) needed with stock wheels.

the 60 calipers are 4 piston... the diferance is on the 60 2 pistons are larger and the other 2 are smaller on the 4 runner (95 V6 4x4 and couple other years) they are all 4 of the larger size.

agreed on the master tho not required. I have the t-100 master on my 60 and it made the pedal a bit firmer.

Is the t-100 master Cyl also a bolt on replacement or will I have to do any mods? What year t-100? thanks.

yes direct bolt on.

i used a 95 T-100 master non abs and if they ask its NON 1 ton (some uhaul trucks were 1 ton so i think thats why they ask)

Correct. unless I'm mistaken, all 4X4 Toyota Calipers are 4 piston.

 You guys are right, sorry for the fudge. edited for correctness. it has been a while since i did them. larger pistons they are. they do help quite a bit

Anybody know which other years are a bolt on upgrade? Thanks.

hey, i run 33 12.50 super swamper trexus on my 60 with all stock stuff and mine stops very well. now i replaced all brake hardware except the master which looks like it had been done before ie. calipers, rotors, pads, shoes, drums, and wheel cylinders. but just a testament that a good stock system will stop you and your 33's with no problem. just my .02
