Alright! New member here. Excited to see we have some bourbon fans here. I've been collecting for a number of years (drinking plenty as well). I need to get a newer shot as there have been some great bottles added since this was taken (Pappy 23 and 15, some Whistlepig Boss Hogs etc.) If there is ever a get together with a tasting I'd love to bring something to contribute.

Some others on here have certainly noted some of my daily drinker favorites. Weller 107, Elijah Craig 12year and barrel proofs, Belle Meade products and plenty of others. I love a good hunt too. SC is certainly the best state to hunt near me. The NC state run ABC really limits the selection around here.

The best kind of hoarding Ive ever seen.

Good Grief, I'm saving that picture if ever the wife comments on how much I have hoarded! No wonder why I can never find any really good stuff around SC....you have bought it! So where in SC are you finding this stuff.....I have to get any Buffalo Trace products somewhere else than Greenville!

Did a little more hunting this morning and found some solid picks! I cant give away all my honey holes, but I find a lot of my stuff down around Charleston. Southern Spirits in Fort Mill is a great spot too.

Boss gave the office manager $$$ to pick some bottles of stuff up.

Both pretty dang good. Was hoping some would be left to take home but alas....

Clear bourbon? Just kidding. I needed some vodka for moscow mules. I'm still sipping on my Buffalo Trace.

Huge Vodka guy also. Reyka cannot be beaten for price and taste. Just about my favorite thing to drink straight after Whisky

I know nothing about vodka but the Reyka was cheaper than North Carolina Method vodka by a few bucks. However Reyka is pretty good stuff and really smooth. The Riva vodka I was planning to use in a spray bottle to get camp fire smoke smell out of the Cruiser. Riva is $6 for a fifth.

Newest addition. Taste like an Islay Scotch

Picture received from a local “Bourbon buddy” who has been in a small town in central England with his family since 12/21. Taken at a local liquor store....

I spy a bottle of Elmer T ...

So if I wanted to get one bottle - pretty decent stuff, not to chase me off - - money is "kinda" important, but say, $50 or so . . .what should I drink as my intro to Bourbon?

Or is this some kinda "you gotta drink the classics first to understand" thing?

I see Four Roses come up a lot and high on the Whisky Advocate radar.

I had a period of trying to drink Scotch and failed at it - never enjoyed it.

We have a lot of good options over at The Mod from Buffalo Trace, but not seeing much of it discussed among the media BS online.

To start out, I would try something from one of the major distilleries, like Maker’s Mark, Elijah Craig, Four Roses Single Barrel, Wild Turkey (I prefer the 101, but they have a lower proof version if you prefer), Eagle Rare, or Old Grand Dad (I like the 114, but the Bottled in Bond 100pf version is good too). I’m not a big fan of most of Jim Beam’s products, other than OGD or Booker’s.

See which of those you like, then seek out similar bourbons to try. If I were picking where to start, it would be either Maker’s Mark (a wheated bourbon that has a little more sweetness and a little less “spice” than the rye bourbons), Elijah Craig, or Eagle Rare. Can’t really go wrong with the 4R Single Barrel either. If you don’t like any of those four, you probably just don’t like bourbon.

I had to do some work in Chapel Hill a few years ago and stumbled on to this place. The Crunkleton - Classic Cocktails, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Fine Dining
I got to try some pretty unique stuff without buying a whole bottle of anything. I was never much of a corn whiskey fan, but since all all bourbon is whiskey I like to follow this thread. I recently tried this Kings County Straight Bourbon Whiskey and was really pleased. I have also become a big fan of single malt American whiskey's recently. Balcone's and Westward are my two favorites.

I think ONSC needs a tasting event where everyone brings a bottle of their everyday drinker, maybe at the meet and greet.
