Good Morning,

I have a 2004 LX470 that I purchased in May. It currently has 137k on it. Slowly working through baseline items. One thing I have noticed is, whenever I put any weight in back (even sit on the tail gate) the rear suspension compresses a fair bit, with the vehicle off. This is my first AHC vehicle, but if I didn't know any better I'd say my springs are wore out.

It is not noticeable when driving - I am guessing the AHC is making up for it (height adjustment works fine). I suppose the logical step would be to check pressures, though I do not have my techstream cable yet. With a bunch of weight in back, its easy for me to guess that my rear pressure would be high to make up for spring compression.

Does any one else's lx470 have a "bouncy" rear end?

Thanks

Just wondering if the stock springs are normally this way and I should be considering a small upgrade or if new OEM springs would solve this?
Or maybe this is a wore out globe issue?

I'd bet money that your AHC globes are shot, or that there's possibly an issue with the rams (rear shocks). Since the rams are an uncommon failure point, and the globes are a common one, I'd check there first. Check out the AHC maintenance thread by Paddo (I think? There are a few) and go from there. I know @suprarx7nut has some really great info posted here for AHC maintenance as well.

If it is a globe issues, it's a pretty straight-forward fix. I would personally HIGHLY encourage you to keep the AHC system if it fits for your purposes of the truck. It may seem like an easier or cheaper option to convert to static suspension, but in my opinion, and fromy my experience, it's worth it to keep.

Definitely sounds like globes and possibly the rear springs are becoming worn but I doubt it. My 01 had 450k miles before I did any suspension work on it. When I replaced all four globes I had to adjust the torsion bars to get the front within the spec pressures. The rear was just barely outside the ideal pressure but I went ahead and ordered new springs anyway. That brought it right back within spec. I would count the gradients to get a rough estimate on how bad the system is; I only had 4 to start with. Pick up a set of globes from impex. Download techstream and get a cable and you should be good to go. You may or may not have to replace the rear springs.

Looking at picture. LX looks like ACH in high. It also lack rake (front lower than rear).
If ACH actually in "N". Likely a poor sensor lift was done. Which may have way to much pressure in rear. Which can result in leaks. Can aslo blow a globe.

Thanks for the replies. I will check my graduations when I get a chance. It seems like probably a globe issue. The system functions fine and the ride isn't awful but not as smooth as I expected. This was a one owner vehicle, an old couple, so I doubt it was sensor lifted. But maybe poorly adjusted at some point. Definitely going to keep the system though.
