I rarely need to use the freeway, but when I do, I notice a loud screeching noise after driving 65+ mph like 10 minutes into my commute... Someone told me that the hub may need to be replaced or that the transfer case could need service. I hope it won't stop me from going to cruiserfest, which is only like 30 minutes from my house in Salt Lake City. :(

Make, model, year goes a LONG ways in determining a problem. Then little things like, I hear it in the front, rear, left or right, and it's more of a wobble, wobble, wobble or a SKREEEEE!, or wappity, wappity, wappity kind of noise. Does it happen when you apply the brakes, or shift it into neutral, or when it's hot or cold, or when it's over 100°F?

Some people even post a YouTube video to help with internet diagnosis from all the experts here.

I'm thinking you're low on blinker fluid and and when you reach the critical speed at 65 MPH, the centripetal force is causing the air to rush past the opening and causing a whistle, that , when muffled by the tire noise, ends up more like a screech.

Good Luck! I hope that you are able to isolate the problem and gather more assistance.

Maybe check the condition and tension of your alternator and AC belts??

Is the noise coming from the wheel, or from under the hood. Hope it's not a spun bearing. Are you low on pwr steering fluid? Could be cavitation from the pump? Try to isolate the source of the "screeching".

Where is cruiserfest, and when?

Blinker fluid haha funny. It's a 96 land cruiser and I think I hear it from the front pass side fender area and it's a "skreeee" noise that starts going away once I slow to about 45. It don't hear it when braking.

Sounds like a good start.

cruiser fest is today and mostly tomorrow at miller motor sports park near Tooele utah.

Check you front brake pads, wheel bearings or bent dust shield on front rotor. Just some ideas to look at.

You sure it's not under the hood?

I'm on a road trip right now and am getting a similar sound intermittently.

(Paying close attention to when it happens, I *think* my issue is the fan clutch slipping when engaged and when rpm's are > 3K. Haven't had a chance to look yet though...)

Fan clutch is a fluid coupling

I'm going to bet that it could be your windshield seal causing the noise. If you still have the original windshield, the seal has probably dried enough to allow some air to pass into the crease along the edges at highway speeds; thus causing the screeching noise you are hearing. I get the same thing on my 02 4runner at highway speeds sometimes. It typically only happens if you are going above 55 miles per hour and if the wind is hitting the windshield at just the right angle.

If the windshield was recently replaced, they probably did not seal it properly.

I'm thinking two possibilities:
1) u-joint on driveshaft
2) bronze bushing inside the birfield knuckle where the shaft goes out to the spindle. (Spindle Bushing)
3) Mild possibility of a wheel bearing loose.
