Larry and Frank are planning a ‘blue moon’ night run in the Jemez Friday July 31st. The plan is to meet at the Walatowa Visitor Center near Jemez Pueblo at 8 pm. From there we will catch the trail head right after the Gilman Tunnels and then either camp in the bush afterwards or those that wish can head back. Frank and I are going to set up a base camp Friday afternoon. I will start a thread for anybody that would like to join us for a night run. Based on some of the LED set ups I have seen, it may be one of the first night runs where sun glasses would be helpful.

Anybody want to join? If so, let us know if you want to camp as well.

Well.... the response to this event has been overwhelming.

No seriously.... Frank and I have adjusted our plans. With the Ouray trip the following week, we feel it is better and easier if we just do a Puerco run Friday night. This will not be an overnighter, so it should be a bit easier for some. We plan to meet at the water tower right after the pavement ends on Northern Blvd (39th streetish) outside of Rio Rancho at 7 pm. We typically due a short run out to a nice area, make a fire, eat/drink, watch the sun set, say - "this is really cool" ... and then do some trails at night. It should be somewhat late for those that want to stay out and play or one can head back after the fire. It a good time for all.

Post up if you want to meet. Rain or shine, we will be there at 7. I will monitor HDC-2 and can relay coordinates for those that make it out later than 7.

OK, this is much more doable for me, I'm in.

Will we have some sort of a bbq capability? Mine are natural gas, and won't travel.

Oh man I was hoping to get my junk back together in time to go camping Friday...I'll see if I can join you as I still have 2/3 to get back together

Hey Desert100 - I don't know if we will have bbq caps or not. I usually just pick up take away and make it easy but bbq sounds fun. I have a propane rv grill but no adapter for a 1 lb bottle so I don't think that will work. Perhaps someone will post up that can help. Let me know if you need any further directions on the meeting place.

Cheers!

We love camping in the Jemez. Ali said that I had found the Paliza trail, a HDC go to Jemez trail, last time I was up there. But I didn't feel comfortable doing it on my own. The mile or so I did really was fun so I want to get back there and run it with companions. Our camper is 23' so we are limited to slightly improved gravel roads for base camping. Post up if you ever think you want to go camping.

Hope you can get your rig sorted before Friday. I'd like to find that one trail that you, Evan and I discovered trying to get out on the north side that one Sat. There is some sick canon stuff on that northern area.

I am in either way, but a little confused as to where we plan on going based on the last post...... I am a little slow so speak slowly, Thank you.... Also please post what HDC-2 is ###.###... Thank you Larry....

IIRC, HDC2 is 146.52. I have it programmed into my radio as HDC2, so forgive if my memory is off.

HDC 1 = 146.460
HDC 2 = 146.400

146.520 is the universal home. Same as ch19 on CB.

Hey Matt.... glad to hear you are going to join. It looks like the boyz have provided the frequency for HDC2 - 146.400. The google says the address and coordinates for the water tower are

3309 Northern Blvd NW
Rio Rancho, NM 87004
35.274430, -106.802973

Here is a screen shot of the aerial.

Drive on Northern Blvd for several miles west until it turns from pavement to gravel. The water tower is 1/8" mile past surface transition.

Having just moved, I don't even know what box my rain gear is packed in, and we're already getting thunder and lightning up here in Sandia Heights, so I guess I'll reluctantly bail on this evening. Enjoy the run. - N

Hey Desert100 - that's cool. If you change your mind, know that I have found my rain gear and have an extra jacket. Otherwise, have a good night.

Not finished with the repair, have a good time

I participated in a moonlit run down at Gordy's and it rained on us the whole time. Crossed one normally dry wash that was running water 1.5' deep and 25' across.
