Anyone know where I can get a blower motor resistor. Its located on top of blower motor housing. Ceramic 3" tube with bolt thru the middle. Has two terminals. Have checked aroung but unable to locate one. Heater works fine when its on high fan all the time. Thanxs:bounce:

Could someone explain to an electrical illiterate what the function of this resistor is? Based on the description above I'd guess it steps down the voltage and the fan spins slower.

The specs on this would be good to have - since there's certainly a compatible part not OEM 100 times cheaper.

on my 40 the wires leading into this resistor are practically "melted" off - only 2-3 thick wire strands attached, probably due to the 17V that the system got fed when the voltage regulator went out. My heater still works, but I'd guess I need a similar resistor.

First go here for an alternative resistor part number: Front Heater Fun

The purpose if the resistor is to drop the current going to the motor so the motor runs slower. When you pull the heater switch out to position one (low speed), it puts the resistor in series with the motor. When you pull the switch out to position two (high position), the resistor is bypassed and full current goes to the motor.
