Hello all,

I've been chasing down a chirping noise in my front blower motor and decided to take the fan apart to clean it. Unfortunately I busted the motor housing while tapping (ok, smashing) the shaft with a set pin to remove the cage.... ooops.

Now I'm going to have to replace the whole motor vs just cleaning the cage, but that led me to this auction:

This guy is selling new Denso motors without the squirrel cage for $35+ shipping. That's a heck of a lot better than the $150+ for a new Toyota unit.... It looks like he has 21 of the units left, so I'd recommend anyone that wants one, jump on it.

FYI, I made an offer for $25 + Shipping and the seller accepted it. Great price for a DENSO unit.

Update on the fan motor.

It's a 100% exact replacement for the original motor, and it is indeed, brand new. Perfect fit, easy to install once I got the old fan cage off. I highly recommend anyone on the fence to buy one as the performance of the OEM fan is much, much better than the ones available at Autozone/NAPA/etc.

That's a good find. Does it say Denso anywhere? Looks NON-Chinesium (from the two golden bolts with a dimple on its face: only seen in Japanese bolts). I have also knoncked off the bottom part of the housing while trying to remove the cage. I ended up pulling a used fan from a junked car for $10, still the old one works and makes a small sound at low speeds. For $35 shipped is not a bad deal.

I ordered one last week, will post side by sides when I pull it out.

Yes, made in Japan Denso motor.

Perfect replacement.

Perfect timing. Mine started squeaking and cleaning only had a marginal affect. Can't believe this thing only lasted 23 years and 300k miles in Texas...

How did you get the fan wheel off the motor? In the past I had tried and could not get the two separated.

It was a bitch, and I ended up destroying the old motor doing it, but it was being replaced anyway... First you remove the small clamp (easy) and then I used a mechanic's pick to pull back the lock tab on the wheel that attaches to the shaft. While it was lifted up, I lifted the wheel by putting two long screwdrivers between the motor casing in opposite directions of the wheel and pried it by pulling on the handles of the screw driver.

Once the wheel was past the groove on the shaft, I tapped on the motor shaft with a hammer and set punch to finish the job. This "tapping" cracked the back of the motor casing (and that can be seen in the first picture above).

Well my new one looks like your old one upon delivery…sad day.

It looks like shipping dropped it and the needle side hit the ground and pushed back up through the plastic.

I know this is in my future, thanks for sharing.

That's totally what happened. I say that because I was beating the crap out of the shaft on my old one with a hammer and that's what mine looked like. Sad, that's 1 less good motor.

Are the blower motors the same in all MY? Wondering if this fits in my 06 LX.

Update, seller didn’t want this one damaged; box was much larger.

Edit: Installed new unit tonight. Here’s what the old one looks like, carbon like an abrasive saw.

To remove the cage I took my die grinder with a small bit and put a small mark on the top, after that I grabbed a small hammer and pin and slide the cage off.
Another person or two skinny metal plates would be helpful to support the cage and let the motor hang below.

Thanks for the thread. The incessant chirping/squeaking is about to drive me insane.

Not to revive an old thread, but I am in the market for a blower motor to get rid of the clicking sound. However, what is shown above as well as what is shown on some of the pictures of motors I can find for sale are missing the cut outs below. Doesn't that prevent the recirculation from working? I'm surprised your original motor above doesn't have these either?

Oh, I just realized I ended up in the 100 series section not the 80....never mind...enjoy your non discontinued blower motors while they last!

I have the 80 discontinued blower motor assembly in stock.

My blower quit Sunday morning. It was clean but when I tapped it on the ground lots of particles came out. The condenser was plugged at the bottom so I cleaned that out and added cabin filters that were never installed. Ordered a new Denso motor on eBay.
