I am in the market for a blast cabinet and have it narrowed down to three choices and would like any input from current blast cabinet owners about what to look for or avoid. If I missed another source for a similar size model and price please post up. Thanks

The cheapest is from Summit Racing and I am not sure if it has a built in port for the shop vac or not. It seems all blast cabinets have them but it is not specifically listed. Summit SUM-919050 - Summit® Vertical Sandblasting Cabinets – SummitRacing.com

This one is very similar to the Summit Racing model and definitely has a shop vac port. Their shipping charge seems excessive to me. 770 Mini Cab Abrasive Blasting Cabinet - TP Tools & Equipment

Free shipping on this one and it is plastic as opposed to the metal cabinets above.

I just bought this one.

EW TopSide Door Opening Blast Cabinet w/Dust Coll

I like it so far.

I've had some static problem with the plastic ones. The dust charges the plastic and then shocks the piss out of you.

If you're looking for cheap, check out Harbor Freight. Their tools are junk, but very cheap. A blast cabinet might be worth it, even if you have to upgrade the gun.

I did not think about the static issue and a plastic cabinet. Believe it or not the Harbor Freight one looks just like the Summit cabinet, costs more, and does not ship for free. - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

The Eastwood cabinet you picked up looks very nice but is out of my price range.

T/P tools hits Carlisle PA and Hershey PA swap meets in the spring and fall so if you know of someone going to one of them they can pick it up ,plus they have the stuff hooked up so you can get a feel of it before buying .

They do have some nice stuff at their booth

I bought the T/P 780-TL this past winter and have to say it is a very well made cabinet for the money.
Can't really give you a synopsis as to how good it works because I have yet to get my big compressor to run it. Kind of put the cart before the horse.

I bought a harbor freight blast cabinet. it was a POS and not just the gun, it has big gaps and media fell righ tout, after 2 tubes of sealant it would barely hold media long enough to get anything done, had to use it outside to keep mess down, pickup constantly clogged,

Did you ground it?

Grounding it could be as simple as actually bolting it to the floor.

(We run across the same problem when people use hi volume backpack blowers to clean out chicken coops. The static electrical charge is so great that it will make a grown man scream and piss down his leg. A ground strap or drag strap that is connected to the plastic and layed on the ground is all you need to eliminate the problem.)

lol

There are reasons I do not own a chicken coop..

20 years ago, I built one out of plywood. Don't laugh, it worked great. TIP Tools used to sell a kit to do so, I just did it DIY. One thing, the gun is what makes a good blaster. The guns on most are made in CHINA crap. Get this gun, it's made in America and works amazingly well compared to a cheap one:

Trigger Operated Power Gun - TP Tools & Equipment

I made mine HUGE and it paid off. I used to put BMW Motorcycle frames in there...

I hooked it up to a shop vac, then ran another shop vac hose out the wall.

If your going cheap stick with something with a plastic cabinet. So much easier and way less mess as the others I have used leak. Plus the plastic is tough and the media doesn't bounce off it as much.

I went with Trinco cab. about 2 years ago its 48x36 w/ two side doors. It is not a pressuried unit but for what I use it for maybe once or twice a week I figured it was not worth the cost. It was shipped to ups local (lubbock, Tx) w/ 200 lbs of aluminum oxide 180 grit and 100lbs of glass beads for $1350.00

I have been very pleased with it and would go with them again if I ever needed another one.

Thanks for the recommendation on the blast cabinet. I am going to try and get one for Christmas along with some new soapstone counters for my bathroom.
