I'm Interested in what Isotel comes up with. Isotel, would the matte material still have a smooth finish? I was thinking of spraying the hood on our Black LC with bedliner or similar to acheive a matte finish but got to thinking that it would always look dirty and would not shed show and ice very well. That basically has my interest locked back into the vinyl... hoping for low glare matte that sheds show and ice like a waxed glossy hood does..??

TIA,

I'll take one with the compass graphic on it, please.

Hey, Watch your mouth, that compass is a Jeep trademark... 'yota guys 'might' give you a hard time about that one!

I see absolutely NO reason to put a non-functional compass on the hood. wtf are you going to do, park your truck facing due south then overlay a transparent map? :flipoff2:

A Moab trails map would be sweet. I understand the extreme overland racers often place a route map on their hood for quick reference. Low tech heads up display.

OUCH!... seriously how about some thing more useful like matte grey maps on a matte black sheet.... a list of DTC's? Phone number for CDan? Chrome Trucker Girls? OK, sorry, I'll try and stop now...

I used automotive trim paint on mine. Perfect amount of matte and no worries about vinyl ever peeling up. That said, friend of mine has a huge vinyl decal on his 80's hood that's been to Argentina and back and it's just fine.

Got the LX vinyl measured up by Isotel today. Gonna have to give him a few days before the template is ready to go.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the durability of the vinyl for the hood? I have been planning to Line-X or Rhino the hood due to gravel rash from passing semi's. I am going to drive up to Alaska some time in the future and hear that the Dalton Highway can just eat headlights, hoods, and front windshields in terms of gravel thrown up from oncoming semi's. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts on using white vinyl wrap to cover the top of a 100 series (similar to the older Land Cruisers and the newer FJ Cruisers)?

I too have clear bras on my cars and it holds up well given direct rock strikes. I would expect a hood piece to hold up even better, except the leading edge might show an occasional rock strike mark.

I do wonder about sun fading, however it is already flat or matte so maybe that won't be an issue.

Oh yeah, forgot about the clear protective bras...I was going to look into those for the headlights. Duh! Thanks for the input guys.

I lost my windshield on my Suburban on the Alaska Highway but the impact was such that nothing short of a second windshield would have protected it. It really wasn't any worse than any other two lane gravel road. I didn't get to the Dalton ( really wanted to swim in the Arctic ocean) because the Suburban wasn't dependable enough. I returned on the Cassiar Highway through BC and really recommend it.

With the glass headlights I wouldn't bother to cover with vinyl. Clear bra for the front of the hood would be a good idea anywhere! The only rust I have on the truck is the hood leading edge.
The clear bras I see hold up very well.

Plain would be great in Matte Flat Black. Is this for LC and LX?
